Kiyotaka Ayanokoji has just enrolled at Tokyo Koudo Ikusei Senior High School, where it's said that 100% of students go on to college or find employment. But he ends up in Class 1-D, which is full of all the school's problem children.

What's more, every month, the school awards students points with a cash value of 100,000 yen, and the classes employ a laissez-faire policy in which talking, sleeping, and even sabotage are permitted during class.

One month later, Ayanokoji, Horikita, and the students of Class D learn the truth of the system in place within their school...

ayanokoji just breaks some chick heart and tells her she will never amount to anything. Three second later, the ending song started with such a cheery beat.

the song has ZERO business going as hard as it does. The still of Suzune and the beat hitting combine perfectly

The fact that Ryueen is included with the rest of the female characters here confirms that he is indeed in the running for best girl.

Honestly this ending is underrated. It sounds really nice but the visuals are just crazy. When I see Kei and Kiyo at the end 🖤

This outro has a totally different vibe than season 1's outro.

Notice when Kei holds the butterfly tight in her hands, this symbolizes that she was trapped into a cage without an escape but then the butterfly moves towards Ayanokouji symbolizing Kei's freedom.

I am not a Horikita fan exactly, but 0:55 is simply cool!

The outro is really well thought of, each character stays on a different stair. The higher you stay the harder it is to defeat that character, like a hierarchical ladder. And you can see that sakayanagi isnt at ayanokoujis level since one is standing up and the other is laying down (can also be interpreted as sakayanagis handicap) ln ppl know what im talking about

I think I finally understood why all of us light novel readers love the scene at the end with Kiyotaka and Kei.
In a way, we understood the meaning of the last 18 seconds unconsciously or I'm just overthinking it, but here's what I think the scene means after thinking a lot about it. A butterfly symbolizes change or transformation. When Kei grasps the butterfly for a bit before letting it go(spoilers from here), I think it represents her monologue at the beginning of volume 7.5 where she mentions she thought she changed herself after enrollment when she realized didn't and only did during the rooftop incident. The butterfly leaving Kei and continuing to fly up to Kiyotaka illustrate that Kei hasn't changed and her real change starts with the student she never fully paid attention to, Ayanokouji Kiyotaka. When pausing to look at the image on 1:28, it reminds me of a monologue Kiyotaka had after telling Kei it was the last time he'd be contacting her. He thinks that Kei, being the queen of class D, and he, a gloomy student are in completely different worlds. In this part of the story, Kei and Kiyotaka's "completely different worlds" are now connected, only being a staircase away. Maybe the animation production did this on purpose, but the fact that Kiyotaka is standing in front of a sunset might represent the end of Kei's parasitic reliance like how a sunset signals the end of a day. Finally, I think the reason why only the butterfly, Kiyotaka, and Kei are the only things animated in this ending is that it means major transformations are being set in motion in Kiyotaka and Kei when they form their relationship. That being the development Kei gets at the rooftop and Kiyotaka meeting the first person in this school(maybe in his life) that develops into something that he doesn't see as a tool. Again, maybe I'm overthinking this whole thing and we're all just happy to see the main girl finally get the spotlight but that concludes my analysis I just wanted to put out there.

You know an ending theme is good when it immediately gives you chills. Who's excited for Season 3?!

My original interpretation of this ending got taken down along side the video in which I wrote it so i'll put it here in case someone didn't get the chance to see it, a lot of people liked it so i hope other people will too, to also give them another look and view of the ending. I don't remember what I wrote exactly but I'll try to replicate it the best I can:

I think i figured it out.
The stairs represent how much power and hierarchy a character has.
Let me explain.
Ryuuen is near the end, demonstrating that he is one of the most relevant entities in school. His only goal is getting at the top while not looking back, not caring about anyone who is behind him, only the ones that are above him.
Kushida, on the other hand, is near the end thanks to her childish behaviour around everyone, her fake persona making her being cautious and worried to not show who she really is, undecided on what to do, that's why she is looking down.
Sakayanagi is at the top but she is not standing up, either because she can't go beyond of what she's capable of or simply because she just feels comfortable where she is at the moment, watching everyone from above as she just rests.
Ichinose is next in line, she is at the middle thanks to her great influence around everyone while at the same time encouraging others to follow her as she watches and waits for them, not caring about reaching the top first.
Horikita stands close to Ryuuen, showing her great potential she will have while still needing some help to get there, we can see her leaning her hand on the wall as if to represent her need to rely on someone stronger to show her the way up while also looking back for the ones who are behind her, caring about them.
Hiyori is the one that breaks my whole interpretation, while she is a mastermind of her own, I don't really know why she is in that place, maybe someone can help me trying to explain her position.
Ibuki is one step away from the bottom of the stairs, her great physical power allows her to be there but she is not capable to go any further, she doesn´t have the ability to do so.
Chabashira and Hosinomiya sensei are in the middle thanks to the fact that they are former students (and also because they are theachers, obviously).
And finally, Kei Karuizawa, the only one at the bottom which I think is mainly due to her importance and relevance in everyone´s eyes. Everyone sees her as just the selfish and provocative girl, we saw this in the first episode of this season (Also because of what happens to her on the upcoming arcs, but i don´t want to spoil it).
All but one sees Kei as irrelevant.
Kiyotaka is at the top of the stairs, contrary to Sakayanagi, he is standing up. Not looking back to show that he does not care who is behind him. But only when Kei is present, that's when he finally decides to look back, showing the connection the both will have.

As for the butterfly...
I originally thought it represented the freedom and free will that each character has, getting closer but also moving away, only Kei is the one to 'catch' it but when she gets just a hint of 'it' she let's go because she is still afraid of what might happen if she fully embraces it, when the butterfly goes up to kiyotaka it is as if it's showing her the path to 'Freedom'.
That's what i originally interpreted it as, but i saw a lot of other interpretations in which they explain the butterfly as evolution, the evolution that each character will have along the season which i found far better than my interpretation, take whichever one you want, credits goes to the one's that told me about the butterfly meaning.

But that's just my thinking, maybe it's just a normal ending and i'm exaggerating, but what do you guys think?
There were a lot of great interpretations too which, sadly, i can't remember due to those being deleted. if you'd like you can repost them here, i would love to read them again.
Remember, this is just an interpretation, a theory of what the ending may reperesent, it is not the official meaning of it.
Thanks again to all who commented on the previous deleted comment, i was overjoyed to see many people invested in this series as much as I am.

We waited 5 years for this moment to come, lets enjoy it the best we can!!

Sorry if i made some spelling mistakes, English is not my main language.

The vibe is so chill and mellow way better than almost any anime opening or outro I've ever heard. The butterfly most likely symbolizes ayano.
