Shortest Reigning Monarchs From History

► Hello everyone and nice to see you back. Kings, queens and emperors come and go, but who was the shortest reigning monarch in history? While Queen Elizabeth II is officially the world's longest reigning monarch with her 69 years old tenure, other monarchs from history were not so lucky. Luis Filipe, the Prince Royal of Portugal was the eldest son and heir of the King of Portugal, Carlos I. On the 1st February 1908, when he was just 20, he and his family were returning to Lisbon, when they were attacked by revolutionaries. Carlos I died immediately, while Luis Filipe himself was fatally wounded, still alive for an excruciating twenty minutes. As he was next in line for the monarch, he subsequently became King of Portugal for the same brief period following the assassination of his father. His younger brother Manuel survived the attack, having only been shot in the arm, while the queen was unharmed. Manuel succeeded to the throne as Manuel II but two years later was overthrown in a military coup when the Portuguese First Republic was established and monarchy abolished. If you found this interesting, please stay with us as we move on with some more interesting stories where reigns were shortened by everything, from assassination and intrigue, to democratic movements that sought complete abolishment.

Please check the video to see a list of shortest reigning kings, queens and emperors!

A very important and informative historical aspect of Monarchies, and people of royalty. History is certainly a key to the understanding of knowledge of empires. The visual images, most certainly present individuals who have achieved brilliance and prominence that may affect today. It is quite fitting to be able to listen to the (beautiful musical score) as well as observe figures from history. Thank you, for presenting this.

Jean I was the posthumously-born son of Louis X and so became King of France with his first breath. However, he died six days later. November 11-16, 1316.

Louis-Philippe II was technically King of the French from the day of his grandfather Louis-Philippe's abdication (February 22, 1848) and the proclamation of the Second French Republic (February 24, 1848).

King Kaarle I of Finland:
Am i a joke to you?

You had John I of France, who was king for his whole life, from birth to death, from 15 to 20 November 1316. His father, king Louis X passed away while the queen was pregnant. The child was a male, thus a king as the Salic law authorized only male on the throne of France. Unfortunately, like many young ones in his time, he passed away 5 days later, making him the only king of France to have ruled his entire life.

1:46: Why did France have so many Louis? Also marrying your cousin is not a smart move.
2:18: I barely knew who she was before this, so nice to know something about her.
2:56: He was unlucky and didn't deserve to be killed by the bolsheviks
3:41: I didn't know who he was, but he did assassinate someone to be king so I'm not crying over his death.
4:12: At least Henri got to live in peace and wasn't killed.
4:46: Poor Jane, she was a pawn in the hands of men and didn't even want to be queen
5:20: At least she died of natural causes. But was Leonor her parents' favourite or something?
5:49: He died so young. I wonder if he would have turned out like his father
6:25: Not being able to visit the country you have spent your life in must be a very hard punishment
6:53: No, I'm not crying over the death of a usurper. Also Mary was worried about her life, which is proved by the next tragic monarch.
7:47: And you thought public exams were hard. Also, he didn't deserve to die so young.
8:17: Remember kids, money doesn't buy you everything.
8:49: Poor Juana, she didn't deserve such an awful husband.
9:24: He died too young, like several other people on the list. And you thought your uncle sucked.
