Nissan NISMO Celebrates 40th Anniversary as Z NISMO

Nissan’s high-performance brand, NISMO, recently celebrated its 40th anniversary, having been founded on September 17, 1984, in Omori, Tokyo. Born from a blend of the words "Nissan" and "Motorsport," NISMO originally focused on Nissan's racing efforts. However, its influence quickly expanded into production vehicles.

In 1988, NISMO’s first dedicated race car, the Saurus, hit the track, but it was the 1989 debut of the legendary Nissan Skyline GT-R R32 that truly put NISMO on the map. Known for dominating races in Australia, the R32 earned the nickname “Godzilla” and became a symbol of NISMO’s engineering prowess.

Since then, NISMO has developed performance-driven vehicles such as the Skyline GT-R R33, which was the first production car to complete the Nürburgring in under eight minutes. Today, the NISMO badge can be found on models like the Juke, Patrol, Sentra, and the electric Ariya, making its mark worldwide.
