Kayak Power-Pole Micro Anchor Install

Показать описание
The advent of shallow water anchors has greatly enhanced boat control for both fishing and convenience (docks, retying, etc.). The same benefits apply to kayak fishing and allow anglers to pin the boat in place for thoroughly fishing productive spots without drifting by, or re-rigging tackle to name a few.

Wired2Fish’s McKeon Roberts gives us a quick rundown on his new Old Town Predator PDL 2020 kayak along with step-by-step instructions for installing the Power-Pole Micro Anchor. Smart manufacturers make the process easy and non-destructive through the use of designated factory mounting locations and pre-tapped holes. As you can see, this is a fast and easy DIY project and adds considerable fishability to your kayak.

I decided to get one and finally used it on my cuda 12 this weekend. I love it and see it being a game changer for me. There was a steady breeze all day and I wasn't wasting time with an anchor. Just a touch of a button and I was in position. Frustration free. More casts. I'll also be using it on my small aluminum boat. A second mount makes it easy to swap back and forth.

Will an anchor pole keep you facing a single direction at all times?
or
Will anchoring into the current spin you around the pole and make you face the other way? im trying to figure out if im better off with just an anchor trolly.

Word of Caution: There is a dangerous oversight that is a major design flaw in this Old Town's Predator PDL when it comes to the Power-Pole Micro Anchor !!! The Power-Pole Micro Anchor should be mounted only on kayaks at the stern where the pole is never enclosed (through a hole). The Power-Pole needs to be out in the open at the rear of the kayak. Let me explain, if the Power-Pole gets stuck in the down position while you are underway you will not be able to use the emergency release that unlocks the base and allows the entire unit to tilt forward so that the pole will angle upward almost parallel to the kayak. If the pole is extended, but the base unit released, the end will dislodge from anchoring and you can safely paddle back to shore even to reset the Micro Anchor unit to its remote. TRUST ME ON THIS...it has happened to me twice but fortunately I was able to use the emergency release both times. In the Old Town Predator PDL design, because of the hole the pole runs through, the pole will not be able to tilt and you will be stuck at "anchor" and that could put you in an extremely dangerous if not embarrassing situation.

I went and bought the hex bolts 1/4x20x3/4 . They don’t seem long enough? How deep do they have to sink into the kayak, for them to be effective?

So itll be useless if your is 20ft water?

Why would I want that 10ft+ long pole hanging out with me on my kayak when I'm constantly fishing around trees and under tight places? It would have made more sense to make a chain drop type of anchor then a huge pole

So how do you retract and stow the back rudder with the power pole there?

Listen, I'm fat, so when I see a fat man look comfortable in a kayak I'll buy one. I have yet to see that but it looks fun.
