Memories of Hughie Gillespie - Frank Kelly, accompanied by Liam Deery

Frank Kelly, originally from Mullaghanery, Crossroads, now living in Ballinacor, Crossroads, Killygordon, Co Donegal, began playing the fiddle at an early age, and was greatly influenced by, among others, his cousin, Hughie Gillespie, firstly by listening to 78's, and later, when he returned from America to Ireland, Hughie shared his expertise by imparting his vast knowledge of the music to Frank, who became an avid pupil, studying Hughie's tunes, his style, and above all, his unique back treble.
Among Hughie's claims to fame was his Worldwide Radio Broadcast, made in New York.
Frank was All Ireland Champion Fiddle Player in Buncrana in 1979, and toured Ireland, Canada and the United States of America with Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann. He has been, and continues to be, the stalwart of many a great session.
Liam Deery, from Ballybofey, Co Donegal, deceased April 2018, was a guitar player extraordinaire, whose sensitive accompaniment speaks for itself.
This recording is dedicated to the memory of a great fiddler, whose music is ably represented here, notably "Paddy McGill's", written for Hughie by Patrick McGill from Glenties, and "My Love Is On The Ocean", written by Hughie in honour of his wife, Mae, and never before recorded.
