“The war in Thailand”... doesn’t exist in the timeframe she provided. Given that Thailand was involved in many wars at the time, but there weren’t any IN Thailand for anyone to seek refuge.
The war she should have stated instead is,
“The Secret War”.
Which holds a lot of weight to Hmong people and their history.
Some may call it the “Laotian Civil War”, where Hmong people aided the Untied States and Royal Lao Gov. to fight against communism, also known as, “Pathet Lao”.
But obviously, knowing that Laos is a currently a communist country, we lost the war.
