My first impressions of the idle walking sim The Longing from Studio Seufz and Application Systems Heidelberg.

About MurrOtter: I'm a first impressions review and Let's Play channel dedicated to checking out the kinds of games that interest me and that I genuinely think I could have fun with. That doesn't mean I'm sure to like them, but I'm not going to waste my time (or yours) checking something out that I don't think could be a good fit for my taste. Glad to have you join me and hope to see you around for more!

The little update: it seems that the time can actually run significantly faster especially if you’ll leave your shade at home and will decorate it with objects. There are already rumors you can beat the game in couple of months, while having all the furniture/objects and some people already have passed 5 - 6 real life days even though the game’s just 2 days away from the release. In fact there are some of us asking for some hardcore mode to actually slow down the time cause it’s running too fast 😆 and we want our promised 400 days experience!

I have finished the game. I awakened the King. I know all the other ways (I think there are 5 total) to end the game. There are two other endings I would Like to try.

At the end, time was going 2 minutes per real second.

I don't want to discuss the endings. I'm sure they can be found all over the internet, if you're looking.

I've been playing since last night. I've got to say I like this game. I'm actively trying to reach the surface. I'm in the middle of waiting two hours for a door to open. Shade told me he could squeeze through right now, but he's got time and will wait for it to open completely.

Very interesting concept for a game I think. I can surf the net while Shade waits for things. I actually feel for the little guy.

I like this game. Here's why;
Like many, for me games are about escapism and introspection. And what is this game about? A guy who has _nothing_ but time on his hands. So much time. Mountains upon mountains of time. The game makes it achingly clear that you have no need to hurry for anything. The idea of adding a fast travel or a speed boost is almost blasphemous. We are here to sit. And wait.
And that's something I can't really experience anywhere else. It's honestly extremely refreshing. Right now there's a cave in the upper levels I want to check out. I'll get to it. Eventually. There's no rush, y'know?
This game is testing a skill and that skill is patience. Something many gamers are in extremely short supply of. I like the dry, dark humor. I like lonely introspection. And I like knowing that when I come back from a day of rushing around, lil' Shade will be there waiting. Just waiting.

I’m one of those players would love this game. And I already am in love with the little guy! I like how you called him Dobbie 😄 As for the slow paced gameplay, it will be like that all of the time I believe, although you can speed up the time by reading books (every turned page will add up plus 1 minute to the overall time), but in general it’s just a slow process of exploration and even like active meditation. Not everyone’s cup of tea, but for those of us who usually takes their time to play games rather than rush through them is a true gem. The only question is whether there will be enough puzzles, activities to occupy till the end of the game (or 400 days). Thank you for this video!

Thank you for posting this, I was just barely curious enough about this game to dig around for more info and this hit the spot.

Did you notice that at the very end of your play, the timer had sped up? You didn't move any faster but the timer did. It was clicking by 4 seconds/sec. So it wouldn't really be 400 days IRL. Still a painfully slow game.

This game is an idle game... A very amazing one at that 7.5/10 in my eyes.

Id agree that this game is a little unsatisfying, but I've put a couple hours into and it seems that there are ways to make time go faster? The trailer shows it eventually ramping up to like 11 seconds per real second, but I don't know how long it takes to get to that level? I'm really hoping there's a way to make this game not take as long because I really like it and want to give it the praise it deserves!!

This game is an essence of "overhyped tamagochi", i imagine ppl who
would actually put real time into this wouldnt be able to hate it after
these "400" days. Also with this time limit devs save themselfs from any
possible shitstorms and refunds, because ppl who would actually play
this fair would be to full of themselfs to admit they got scammed. there
is little to no gameplay, and without "slowwalk" and time limits this
game is a 15 minutes long point and click adventure. I admit this game
has some interesting thoughts put into it, but all of them can be
realised in better ways. Essentially devs had a great idea, but they
were to lazy or didnt know how to actually properly capitalise on it.
BTW all 4 game endings are already on youtube so take this game's advice and save urself some money and precious time.

The game is like Animal Crossing. You tell the shade to do something then walk away, you can even close the game and it'll be done at the right time. Still definitely not a game for the impatient.
