1967 end of the last main line steam, Waterloo to Weymouth. I remember it well as a teenager living in Weymouth. I remember how exciting it was to spot those blue/grey coaches and the odd diesel engine. Of course, on SR we had Green coaches with blue/grey and most were pulled by Bulleid Pacifics

Great info as usual Dave - this is “My” Era, and evoking childhood memories, therefore influencing the period that I model. Those photos took me right back and trigger memories of not only the look of the scene but also that “Filthy” smell. 👍🏻🚂

Excellent presentation on an interesting BR period, offering a lot of motive power choice. One thing to mention was the tendency for BR to paint the Britannia's and some diesel class 45's in the "economy green" colour scheme. It will be interesting if these were also available in model form.

Very nice video. I often wondered why coaches were mixed in a rack. Martin. (Thailand)

In this period 12ton vans were used in parcels trains. Not sure when this stopped.

2 comments about those train formations. 1. There should be a brake van at the rear of the coal train. 2. A Class A tank wagon should not be next to a steam loco, you need a barrier wagon between it and the steam loco due to the risk of fire (additionally you can't gave a traditional oil lamp in one either in any era for the exact same reason).

The "Britannia" at 11:45 could be No. 70047 which was the only one of the class to not have a name. :)

Any chance of a "GWR in the hayday of steam" version of this livestream?

On a long train you would see either a full brake carriage or a brake corridor carriage at each end. Was it a case of whatever was available? For shorter trains - how many carriages before only one guards carriage was needed?
