Scalpels are sharp but the reason they cut so easily is because they are very thin

Interesting fact, surgical knifes have sharpness requirements. If its too sharp the operator wouldn't feel what they're cutting hense giving them control.

Fun fact, 11 surgical blades are used for laparoscopic incision. The sharpest part of the knife is actually the tip to make “stab incisions”.

Algorithm has decided it’s time for the sharpening of knifes

Fun fact I had no idea there was a way of measuring sharpness.

I was reading the other day that back in ancient history people would sharpen their knives with nothing more than a flat rock. Crazy huh

precision is what makes the difference from a butcher to a surgeon

You're using that tester wrong. Dropping the blade damages it. Apply gradual pressure.

As a butcher who has trained under several OGs, learning a wet stone and steel will save you HUNDREDS on knives. Angle and pressure are everything. Can turn a butter knive into a razor blade.

As the saying goes, a sharp knife is a safe knife

Today I learned there’s not only a scale for knife sharpness, but a machine that somehow tested two scalpels for that measurement

My bread knife and chefs knife are just as sharp but cut different thing’s differently. Each blade has its own use to be used in its own way. Things cut better when used for the purpose it was designed for

The difference between a sharp and thicc blade(kitchen knife) and a sharp but thin blade(surgical knife) is that a surgical blade will cut very easily because essentially it is splitting not cutting, a kitchen knife cuts instead of splitting, a kitchen knife is made to last while a surgical blade is made to be only used once or twice

Can you make a video on how the tester works?

Didn’t know there was a machine to measure the sharpness of a tool

Sharper than razor has a crazy definition. Cuts paper horizontally

The thinness is certainly a factor...But the steels composition has everything to do with the ability to achieve that fine edge
. Most steels will fragment and leave a rough edge long before getting to scalpel sharpness

That is a number 11 blade, which is sharp at the tip cause because it's only really used for puncturing the skin. Use a 10, 15, or 20 blade next time, which are cutting blades

Please tell me you bought that scale because it is a SHARP scale.
