Somehow Bulldog singing Ave Maria is absolutely fitting.

That line “Grandpa got on a plane” really does show a main difference between Martin and Frasier. Frasier does care about people, and he loves his family, but he also thinks everything can be talked out and broken down into more easily understood pieces, and he spirals when confronted with the prospect genuine loss in his personal life. If Freddy had called, he would have used all of his education and experience to try to help his son, and it would have come from a place of best intentions and love. Maybe he would have visited later or invited Freddy to visit him, but that wouldn’t have been his first instinct.

Martin, on the other hand, was more about people and personal connection than logic and reason. His grandson calling him, devastated about the sort of loss he (Martin) had gone through before would be all the reason he needed to get on the first flight to Boston to be there for him and keep him company through the worst of his grief.

Both reactions have their benefits, but it’s good that Freddy seems to take after Martin so much, especially since David will likely take up more of Niles and Frasier’s tendencies. They’ll balance each other out well.

I am so very happy and grateful that the very first episode was in honor of Martin

Thanks for the memories John Mahoney (1940-2018). Marty was the best.

You can tell that Freddy missing Martin’s funeral hurt Frasier more than the whole “not living up to his expectations” that Freddy thought

Loved the way Marty was honored. The acting and writing is great and so fun. Looking forward to more episodes.

"The police send-off, Daphne's toast, Bulldog's Ave Maria!"

It is scenes like this that are a huge part of what makes the last Frasier show a good series. More of this is what we need.

I saw the trailer and I got a how I met your mother feel to it. But after seeing the air hockey table clip, and now this clip, I feel this is Frasier. What a beautiful moment we get between father and son, and grandfather. RIP John Mahoney, this was an absolutely beautiful tribute.

This scene ending with no unnecessary laughter from the audience made it even more touching. 🥹

Freddy holding Martin’s flag is the perfect moment.

One of the most beautifully written scenes in all twelve series of Frasier. A wonderful tribute to Martin / Jon Mahoney.

Fun fact, Frasier is now older than Martin was at the end of the original Frasier series
