Oksana Linde

Oksana Linde is a Venezuelan artist and composer of Ukrainian descent who began creating electronic music in the early 1980s in Caracas. She composed for television and theater, though most of her work remained unreleased until her album Aquatic and Other Worlds (1983-1989) was published. Linde is compared to pioneers like Delia Derbyshire and Laurie Spiegel for her ability to carve out a space in a male-dominated electronic music scene. Born in 1948 to Ukrainian immigrants, she became known during the rise of Venezuelan electronic music alongside figures like Ángel Rada. Health issues led her to focus on music in 1981, and with limited equipment, she built her own home studio. Between 1983 and 1996, she recorded over 60 pieces, creating hypnotic, melodic, and cinematic soundscapes. Linde’s work is a vital contribution to Latin American electronic music, where female representation has historically been minimal. Her music breaks gender norms in the genre and highlights an underexplored history.

Oksana Linde es una artista y compositora venezolana de ascendencia ucraniana que comenzó a crear música electrónica a principios de los años 80 en Caracas. Compuso para televisión y teatro, aunque la mayor parte de su obra permaneció inédita hasta la publicación del álbum Aquatic and Other Worlds (1983-1989). Linde es comparada con pioneras como Delia Derbyshire y Laurie Spiegel por su capacidad para crear un espacio en un entorno dominado por hombres. Nacida en 1948 en una familia de inmigrantes ucranianos, se dio a conocer durante el auge de la música electrónica en Venezuela junto a figuras como Ángel Rada. Problemas de salud la llevaron a dedicarse a la música en 1981, y con equipo limitado, construyó su propio estudio en casa. Entre 1983 y 1996, grabó más de 60 piezas, creando paisajes sonoros hipnóticos, melódicos y cinematográficos. La obra de Linde es una contribución esencial a la música electrónica latinoamericana, donde la representación femenina ha sido mínima.
