I can say this now as I have retired from being an NHS Consultant Surgeon. When you also read the details of how the hospital managers and Medical Director, who were originally involved behaved and acted, in the face of the concerns and alarms raised by the Consultant Paediatricians involved, they should be called to account and suffer serious personal consequences themselves.
Far too often, I saw Doctors "take the rap" during my career whilst culpable Managers stood by, shirked and slipped responsibility, twiddling their thumbs and whistling as if it was nothing to do with them!
It is shocking what they did when you read the details of this case and they need to be punished for this too!

Prisoners don't like child murderers.

You'd pull the lever yourself.
Would you?
Really?
I doubt that very much.
Also, all you proponents of capital punishment, you need to remember that there have been many, many notable instances of innocent people suffering capital punishment. You should only be comfortable asking for the reintroduction of the death penalty if you are also comfortable being one of those wrongly hanged.

she has around 50 years of life left in her. 50 years of not know who will be waiting around the corner. 50 years of being scared of attacks. 50 years of solitary confinement with 23 hour lock-ins. 50 years of no freedom. 50 years without a chance of getting out. 50 years of living
Death is too easy, hanging is too quick. She needs to have another day in court when they find out she has done more.

The managers (top) should also be in the dock. They were warned numerous times by two paediatricians but their warning was dismissed. Threatened by Letby's father!!!? Only when they went directly to the police it was taken seriously.

Too many of us are forgetting why the DP was banned in the first place - the chances of innocent people being executed was proven over and over again to be too high.
Many of those people were given the DP under false pretences, namely false confessions or circumstantial evidence being deliberately manipulated or misconstrued.
Basically there have been far too many cases of serious miscarriages of justice to warrant the re-establishment of this archaic practise, however strongly we 'feel' there are those who deserve it.

We have too many miscarriages of justice to ever have the death penalty.

Andrew Castle, don't think the death penalty is the answer! You know the UK doesn't have this so pretty pointless to even state that

Let's not go there with the death penalty. The managers of that hospital should be accountable massively. Those babies died because of their incompetence. If they listened to the nursing medical team more babies would be alive. So they should go to prison. But guess what the nhs will promote them. Name and shame the managers.

To me, a whole life term would be a worse punishment than the death penalty.

No to death penalty!!!! She should live the rest of her life in prison. Too many mistakes to give death penalty and nobody has the right to take another persons life!!! Neither Lucy Letby or the Justice System. Killing a person is not justice it’s a crime.

Whole life imprisonment. Just her, and four walls for decades to come.

Life imprisonment is a terrible sentence. Letting ppls most reactionary and violent instincts loose with the collusion of the state is the wrong way to go. The death penalty is no deterrent.

Solitary confinement is way more of a punishment than a quick painless death penalty. The death penalty is the easy way out. Life imprisonment in solidarity confinement is a far worse punishment.

I’m Japanese. Families and friends of the victim seem to have much happier lives and are able to move on sooner when the justices is served.

It saddens me that there are still people out there who seriously want to have this debate in 21st century Britain. And that some people with these views get to host radio shows. The death penalty is NEVER an appropriate punishment. No exceptions.

THE NHS MANAGEMENT SHOUKD ALSO BE IN COURT AND FACING CHARGES OF NEGLECT

The Death Penalty demeans the whole of the Society that administers it and pulls it down to the level of the perpetrators.

A whole life tariff is the correct solution.
