CHECK OUT CARS & BIDS

The Ferrari 550 Maranello has doubled in value in the last five or six years. So why have its prices increased so much? I've borrowed a 550 Maranello so I could review it and find out.

Doug should do a video showing us his own quirks and unusual features.

So if you see a 550 rolling down the street with the gas cap open, they are kidnapping someone!

I assume the blank switch is where the rear fog light switch would be, as it's standard in Europe, but you don't require them in the US

Watching this gave me flashbacks to driving this car in Need For Speed: High Stakes on PS1 back in the day.

The front overhang on a Range Rover is far from normal, it's one of the shortest you can get. It's that way to go up a steep incline off-road.

One quirk of Doug is clearly about using or selecting a microphone.

Ferrari 575M Maranello was updated and better but kept the same look and in my opinion one of the most beautiful ferrari ever made

The blank switch is for rear fog lights on a euro-spec model.

How about telling us why a car isn't worth the money sometime?

There's nothing in the world like the sound of a Ferrari V12.

What I love so much about Doug's car reviews, is the humor he puts in to the videos. You don't see that a lot with most car reviewers on YouTube. Good job Doug.

Doug:  The kind of guy who refers to fan speed as, "the intensity of the air".  4:05

A couple of items of note and education. Scuderia Ferrari shields were an option on the 550. They were an option on the F355, too. Its 'Scuderia Ferrari' - literally, 'Ferrari stables', racing terminology. It was an affectation, a demonstration of support for the Ferrari racing team. Noteworthy regarding, Ferrari was originally a racing car company. The sale of road cars was to support the racing habits of Enzo Ferrari. If you see SF shields on a Ferrari prior to the F355, 550, or 456GT (where they were options), like the 348, 328, 308 (where they were not options), check the ownership heritage as authenticity was dismissed at some point during the cars' ownership history. They weren't available at the dealer before then and are also probably secured using an epoxy or resin, which can cause paint damage. When installed from the factory, the SF shield was placed directly to the car before painting.
Also, at this point in the game, glow-in-the-dark interior trunk releases weren't federally mandated yet, so, logically, there is no way out.
The blank switch in the dash is for optional lighting, like extra bright reverse lamps or additional brake lighting, maybe even a rear-shining fog light (those crazy Europeans).
The seats are not 'surrounded' in CF, they ARE carbon fibre. The Carozzeria Scaglietti program let you customize the car as you wished during your order. This car was obviously ordered without consideration or care for the SF shields, as they were optional to add. It was assumed you didn't want them unless requested. All of the CF accoutrements inside the car were special order.
The immobiliser issue is a non-issue. Ferrari correctly assumed that anyone who ordered a 550 intended to drive it when they got in, not sit for ten minutes texting or surfing and leave later (cell phones less a big deal at that time; no infotainment). There's no cup holders, that's a good clue.
The door lock thing isn't a thing. It was common from the 80s to 90s for some cars to have this configuration. My 1985 Passat was also this way.
The 550 was not the last stick V-12 by Ferrari, but probably close to iti. Produced at the same time was the 456GT (gone, not forgotten, shooting up in value currently). Ferrari have always been up to things no one knows about. There are even 2 California (V8) manual trans cars. You figure that one out for yourself when that was.
Of minor detail, the 550 was one of the first production cars to feature the 'bump down' window which would automatically lower an inch to facilitate easier opening and closing of the doors (my 2003 Avalon could use this feature).
MOST OF ALL completely overlooked detail, the 550 Maranello front width (track, measurement from the outside of one wheel hub to the width-wise measurement to the other) is wider than the rear track, which is the primary contributor to the overuse of the adjective 'linear' when describing the handling. Yes, I do forget to have fun when Doug posts a Ferrari video. Sorry Doug.
