China: "you're too american"
America: "you're too chinese"
Anna: *confused screaming*

Reminds me of how Sessue Hayakawa could only ever play villains and was never allowed to get the girl, even though female audiences loved him.

Love Anna May Wong and this portrait is gorgeous! I really enjoy the biographical info you provide while we watch you work; it shows the respect you have for your subjects and it's a lovely way to learn about someone. So glad I subscribed. 😊

“Rejected for being too American”
“Casted out for being too Chinese”
Mixed cultured people really have no home do we?
I myself am mixed race and I’m only in the bubble with my fellow mixed race ppl.

As a biracial Chinese American, I really relate to her identity dilemma.
I just read a great biography of her and now this pops up. I swear YouTube is stalking me.

I did a project on her for Women’s history month, and her story is truly beautiful!

I’m so happy someone else is talking about her. I wrote an essay on Anna May Wong a couple years ago for school and introduced so many other people to her work.

reminds me of a saying "they went through back doors so others could walk through front doors"

Said from a Chinese person, it must feel so bad being called "disgrace" from your own country. I wish her good luck and keep fighting!!!

One of the most unfair lives to ever Grace this earth. She was abandoned by everyone, treated unfairly and still held her own. Thank you for your sacrifice Anna.

If anyone is interested her filmography here are some films she starred in:
Shanghai Express (Personal Fave)
Daughter of the Dragon (1st Asian leads)
The Thief of Baghdad (Silent Film)
Just like what the video has said she was highly underutilized by Hollywood and pigeonholed to play stereotypical and at time offensive role that wouldn’t fly into today’s world. So most of her filmography is pretty scarce with variety and most of leading roles were B-List movie which means it wasn’t promoted enough for everyone to see like the Daughter of the Dragon and I don’t have a lot to say positive about her biggest leading role Toll of the Sea

Thank you for telling us about her, I didn’t know about her struggles, also I love this painting of her, she’s stunning! 😍🥰❤️❤️❤️❤️

I love this so much. No frantic camera movements, just a simple video of you painting. Excellent.
