The seminar discusses the use of geomechanical modeling for reservoirs through computer simulation. Dr. Zamiran explains the three aspects involved in any investigation, namely the physical system, the mathematical model, and the numerical algorithm. Various tools and methodologies used in geomechanical modeling, including finite element and finite difference methods, discrete element method, and hybrid methods are discussed. The importance of using the appropriate modeling tool for reservoirs with abundant fractures and joints is discussed, and various programs like FLAC3D, UDEC, 3DEC, and PFC are introduced. Additionally, constitutive relationships, geometry development, and various examples of geomechanics simulation are addressed. The seminar is hosted by APPIH (American Petroleum Professionals of Iranian Heritage).
