cool idea for a series thanks for sharing. I love portra 160 shot quite a bit of it this summer. I've heard that it gets even better when rated for 100iso (overexposed slightly) although I haven't tried that myself.

Hi,
The Kodak Portra series is capable of producing very vibrant colors your 160 shows very blend colors and some shots are not exposed correctly.
I took 36 shots of sceneries and portraits from Portra 400 and all of them give very vibrant colors and I love them.
Can I suggest you use a zoom lens(for versatility) for scenery and prime lens for portraits that way you get better quality photos. A change of venue would help, I notice you live in England, street/market photography would more appropriate where there are MORE colors.
Just a suggestion and not a criticism hope it helps. Cheers.

Just like you, I want to try my hands on Film camera (I haven't shot on film before). Having used only DSLRs till now, am not sure how would I decide on shutter (I guess there will be no auto-shutter option in Film camera). Can you please comment on how you decided on shutter, did you rely on in-camera light meter ? Thanks for inspiration ..

as much as I do like the portra range I definatly do not believe it is "the one", yes it has some good applications such as portraits as it is great on skin tones without being too warm, personally I prefer the Fuji superias which are great on green tones. I would also recommend trying something like Ilford xp2 which is a black and white film that gets processed in c41 chemicals so doesn't cost as much as black and white traditional developing

I have mixed feelings with the portra line (160, 400). Sometimes they come out awesome in color. Other times, it just looks like crap. Between the awesome and crap they were exposed or close to the same lighting conditions.
