Rihanna: Stay - An Octave Up ⬆️

Ok, ok… this is a full octave about where Rihanna sings it. 😂 Kinda outrageous. But I wanna talk about maintaining a thick, energized, sound in your tippy top, upper notes. So here we are.

The official term is: twang. I’m not a fan of this label, though. In my practice, I call it “fake yelling”. Hehe… the word “twang” seems to conjure images of nasality or banjos and country music. (PS I love country music.)

Anyways, I like to think the voice extends up and up and up by hugging everything towards the centerline. Compressing, if you will. Kinda like turning up a garden hose really high, but pinching the tip. 😜

This is a really big topic! For now, just notice the flavour and focus or pointless of my voice changes as I get up into the very high notes (the highest of which is a G). I don’t often do several takes, but I had to for this one and Demi Lovato’s Stone Cold! 🥵 It takes a lot of compression, and ab work- WHILE maintaining relaxation everywhere else!

I've been singing for years and you are just simply fantastic! There's a bajillion vocal coaches on YouTube but most of the time they have such an over technical robotic dry flavorless way of singing which i think of course stems from their job teaching overlapping into enduring they do, but I've found a few who don't sound so awkward and YOU, LADY, you're not just a vocal teacher, you're an artist!!

You have a nice high octave but your murdering the song it's a ballad it's soft soft sensual voice it's not meant to be high note rock it's not Adele

While this is impressive, I know you are a fantastic vocalist, it isn’t necessary. You don’t need to prove to anyone that you are a good singer. Do what the song needs, not what you think the audience wants to hear, or what you want to do to impress people. The belting here makes the transition super choppy. I think if you want to belt here it would need to be much more emotional. You would need to hear the crying in your voice for it to work here. You are an extremely technical vocalist, I think it would be beneficial for you to work on letting go a bit.

You’re great but you don’t need to scream. I’m a singer so I know what to do.if you want to sing you need to do a little lower voice.if you can’t it’s good you sing very great at singing so practice more if you want to be better❤❤😊😊

Too much screaming. The song is in a lower octave for a reason.

לראות אותך בלי לשמוע זה. חזר נראה שאת עושה יוגה לפרצוף בודקת כמה את יכולה למתוח את שרירי הפנים
