That's a floating in the clouds lazy Saturday morning progression. Absolutely gorgeous.

Basic music theory : the third is the core of harmony.

Masterful musicianship : the third is omitted.

Leaving notes out is only part of the story. To me, this is about note-choice being motivated. In this case, the extensions you're choosing are motivated by voice-leading and by sound. You're playing with a very particular sound which is a major/minor-ambiguity within a tritone substitution. Its very clearly articulated and for this clarity you need to leave out the other extensions.

As a technician, I love how you've shown some of the behind the scenes of your studio space (what we are not seeing).

Getting a glimpse of the equipment used in lighting, sound, set, etc.; those components that complement what we hear in your productions, but we seldom ever see, is very inspiring.

Great work all round to both musicians and tech team!!!

One thing I've learned so far from this channel is while correlation is not necessarily causation, baldness certainly doesn't hurt in being a jazz stud.

Everytime I watch one of your shorts, I am speechless. This is insanely beautiful and clever, and elegantly explained !
I love how Bob throws a couple tritone subs under some of those Vs, without saying anything, and they just keep sounding the same.

The way I look at this progression is I Root in bass (LH) with (RH) 7th major chord in 6/4 or second inversion moving to V Root in bass (LH) with (RH) b5 minor chord 6/4 as you cycle through 5ths. Example: A in bass with G chord 6/4 to D in bass to Ab minor chord 6/4 and so on as you cycle your way down the fifths. They eliminate the bass because it is played by the bass player.

Just as the great B.B. King said, "It's the notes you don't play, that make all the difference.'

Sorry for a simple response. These shorts are amazing. They help me a lot. Please keep them going!

Lydian is hauntingly beautiful. His description outlines it perfectly. For a more beginner exercise, look into to the Lydian mode for any scale, essentially a raised fourth. Great video

I almost always have the 3rd in there somewhere... This is helpful. Happy Practicing.
