Which 2 stroke trail bike looks best to YOU?

I built my 02 Honda CR250R into a trail machine.

Large Clark gas tank.
Huge flywheel weight.
Stator / headlight.
18” rear with trials tire.
And a big rear sprocket.

I bought the CR in ‘02 when it was brand new and I was a much younger man.

Over the years I have been able to adapt to my new riding needs.

Between the mods and tons of seat time, I’m able to make up for many of its shortcomings. But those new Husky and KTM 250’s with the EFI, and electric start have been calling my name. 😅

This is an absolutely awesome video! You really did the homework for us. I'm a 49 year rider and you teach me things that I never knew. This video really clears the fog of buying a bike

I've got a Beta XTrainer, have ridden some other Betas (just not the 250) and ride with a bunch of other guys on Betas. There's really not much difference between the RR and Race Edition models. The suspension is the biggest difference, the RR models have open cartridge Sachs suspension and the Race Editions having closed cartridge KYB suspension. The RR models have oil injection, the Race Editions require pre-mix. There's some trick parts on the Race Edition models like billet foot pegs. I think the Race Edition engines have polished ports, but there's no difference with the gearing between respective RR and Race Edition models, that I know of.

The XTrainer is about 7/8 size compared to any of the RR models. There's practically no difference in the frame of the 200RR and 300RR; they're both full sized dirt bikes. So if size in an issue, the XTrainer is probably a better option than the 200, even with the extra 100cc. The XTrainer is tuned in such a way that the power delivery is extremely linear. The 200 requires the rider to be in the perfect gear while the XTrainer can be put in a gear and left there for most trail riding. You can just ride it and focus on controlling the bike, picking the right line, and all that. So, I'd put a beginner on the XTrainer before putting them on the 200RR or 200 Race Edition. I'd go so far as saying the XTrainer is just as easy to ride as the CRF250F, but it's lighter and has more upgrade potential as the skills grow. It's just a pipe and power valve adjustment away from having the power of the 300RR. The two bikes I'd recommend for older teens or young adults to start with would be the CRF250F or the XTrainer. If they have any visions of getting into super technical stuff, I'd recommend the XTrainer. If not, the CRF250F is what I'd recommend.

I trail ride a yz450f. Making it work, plus I love the lower band of the 450. I’m saving for never 2stroke fuel injected 250 or 300 can’t wait. Ride safe everyone

I own 4 YZs 3 are 250s, the other one is a 144. To me these are one of greatest dirt bikes. I’m saying that, because it’s way easier to tune down a powerful bike than it is to boost more power out of not so powerful bike. The YZ has been classed as the best overall dirt bikes by all the dirt bike magazines. One of the best things about the YZ is the fact that they have the “biggest” parts availability! No other bike comes close!! All those Euro bikes are great, however, they cost $$$ and weigh considerably more (electric start, battery for lights, ext.) not to mention if your bike is 4-5 years old, the parts might not be available or your bike so will be in the garage for a long time before parts are available. NO THANKS!! I love my 02 YZ250, 05 YZ250, 14 YZ250, 07 YZ144. So glad I own them parts aren’t a problem…..at all!

Very helpful review. Honest opinions that are spot on. I'm 59 and have had many bikes and you helped me to realize that what I actually need in a bike is different from what I wanted at 25. Great great information.

I will say, maybe for a beginner. Not a usual china bike fan, but just readjust the power valve and clip the hour meter to help the power avlve work in this KT250, kinda like a 125 smoker. But, if you leave the power valve unfixed, a CRF50 will catch up. Not only that, but sucks for trying to get a 20 foot jump. But, doesn't kick, front heavy so kinda good for jumping just maybe not log climbing. Also, ours is a 2021, got it this saturday. Jumps out of gear, but we are using Ford oil in it and it doesn't jump into neutral as much now. Includes OTOM unbreakable handles, go up, down, and forward. And has fat bars. This is more of a beginner bike and was outmost disappointed when I rode it. I have a KX85 and CRF150RB, my 150 was catching up to in 1st. Do not believe about FMF gnarly pipes, we have one in a box, tried putting it on, no. You have to weld, thought it would be bolted straight on. Also, with a correctly working power valve, mid range is great, and bottom. Just, it does kinda have a hit towards the upper. Now, it will pull away from my 150RB. And my dad says he still has around 25% more. So, around maybe 30 something horse, seeing as we have an FMF powercore that came with my 07 on market, but we have a CN250 clone carb, so, mine might have a little over 24 or a little less. Great bike though despite minor adjustments. Air filter can be seen in the electrical compartment however and it is a pain to take plastics off. Sorry for ratting on:) Just this is our expierence. It is a straight DT230 engine, early 90s

The '84 Yamaha IT 490 is a beast of a cross country machine. Once again you need to be 6'3 220 lb man to handle this.
