A jury found Daniel Penny not guilty in the chokehold killing of Jordan Neely on a New York subway. The verdict led many MAGA allies to hail Penny as a hero. Criminal defense attorney Bernarda Villalona says she “wasn’t surprised” by the verdict while Democratic strategist Hillary Rosen argues she thinks the jury got it right.

Watching this from Europe, it’s not fair to bring MAGA into the discussion. It means that if you (or the jury) found him innocent, it automatically puts you into the Trump corner. This is an insult to the jury system, and brings in an element of implied racism into the discussion without need. Just discuss the case, and what were the relevant facts, so the viewer can understand and form their own opinion.
