Frank Ribery Won't Let His Kids Play For France

Why won't Franck Ribéry let his kids play for France? Despite being a legend of French football, Ribéry has always been a subject of racism in his homeland. In one interview, he said, "The French national team fans, if the team wins, they tell the players of African descent that they are French. But if the team loses, they blame the players of African origin and tell them to go back to their own country, using the filthiest racist words." Because of this, Ribéry said that if his children have successful careers in football, he won't allow them to play for France, but instead let them choose between Algeria and Germany. Do you agree with what he said?

Do you think Ribery is doing the right thing, or should his kids play for a different country? 🤔

Yes, it is racist to say that the French national team is “not French” because it has Black players. Here’s why:

1. French nationality is not based on skin color.

France, like many countries, is a multicultural nation. French citizenship includes people of many different racial and ethnic backgrounds. Being Black does not make someone “less French.”

2. It implies a racist standard of “Frenchness.”

Saying the team is “not French” because of Black players assumes that only white people can be truly French. This is a racist idea rooted in exclusion and white supremacy.

3. It ignores history and identity.

Many Black French players were born in France, raised in French culture, and chose to represent France internationally. Their loyalty, identity, and contribution are as legitimate as anyone else’s.

4. It reduces people to their race.

That statement treats Black players as outsiders no matter what they do or achieve, simply because of their skin color. That’s a classic form of racial discrimination.

If someone is concerned about diversity, immigration, or cultural identity, there are respectful, non-racist ways to have those discussions. But denying someone’s belonging based on race is not one of them.

Wait I thought Germany didn't have birthright citizenship? That's literally the reason Ozil although having been born in Germany was not a German citizenship until he got called up for the NT, which is when they fast tracked his Citizenship.
