At the risk of being a bit of a buzzkill, please try to remember that not everyone can smile so easily. I had two strokes in seven years, both of which badly damaged my facial muscles/nerves and required extensive physio. It was heartbreaking to be told “Smile, it might never happen” by well meaning people who mistook my immobile features for grumpiness. I’d love to have smiled; I just couldn’t. But, on the plus side, my Elvis impression got heaps better

John, ur so right, im a retired chicago transit bus driver, we're known to be grumpy, so when my passeengers boarded, and i was asked how are you doin? I responded with a big smile and say great! Needless to say, i was #1 in commendations, and got promoted to a much better position!

You're right to some degree. I only smile when sending or receiving choosing signals. I don't necessarily want to be approachable all the time. It's somewhat of a defense mechanism. And this day in time it seems like somebody somewhere are always trying to get something free from you. Or sell you something. That's kind of annoying. However if I were at a event like you mentioned I might smile a little bit more since that is the idea to be inviting and approachable..

"and ladies." You made us ladies smile right in today's intro! Smiles are a great way to brighten someone's day. If you're the serious type, Garth, reeling a lady in with your smile may score a conversation where you can feature your seriousness.

While walking down the street recently, I smiled at someone who looked like someone I used to work. The person smiled back. From that person's smile, I realized it was someone else, yet with a brighten day because of my identification mistake. :)

Nice video Johnny Boy. Since birth i have had nerve damage on one side of my face, so when i smile it doesn't really look like a smile. People usually think i've had a stroke, or have Bell's Palsy. This is something i have had to learn to overcome in social settings by immediately striking up friendly conversation and developing a good sense of humor. I wont lie though, i do feel that this has held me back in regards to getting jobs in customer service where you're the face of the company.

Funny that you've mentioned, but I've noticed myself smiling & greeting people as a walk down the sidewalks lately. Provably is part of getting older. (58)

Thanks for the heads up, I get pretty good results of any situation when I approach people with a smile at times when I smile to people with serious looks I can see how hard it is for them to respond back, is like looking deep down on their soul and not find what they looking for. Lots of people are not aware or don't care about the importance of the body language, I'm working on that too.

Thanks John, for this timeless mantra

The great thing about a genuine smile is that it makes you feel better and it makes the person you smiled at feel better. See you Sunday.

John nice video and agree with you 100% . Ollie is amazing, I've used the starter pack and it really does work. I've got the most sensitive gums but using Ollie I had no issues.

Love this video. I also love coffee and coffee really stains your teeth so will definitely be ordering the whitening kit from Ollie’s. Over the counter kits work fairly well but can be expensive. The yearly price from Ollie’s is great and good news for coffee and tea drinkers like me.
I’ve had some gracious people, like my wife tell me I look mad at times because I’am not smiling. I never really thought much about it but I don’t want to be that person so I trying to make a conscious effort to change this bad habit. Hearing you talk about it reminds me to keep working at it. Thanks!

John, very nice subject. Lots of people forget to smile and to me, they come across very negatively. I get this impression that they are carrying the weight of the world on their shoulders. Thank you for the knowledge your share.
