in the icy depths of the deepest lakes. They appear unexpectedly and inexplicably, then vanish just as
mysteriously, usually leaving witnesses dumbfounded, frightened and, unfortunately in most cases,
without a shred of evidence. Yet the eyewitness stories of these creatures persist, haunting the darkness
as well as our imaginations.
Through the ages, the tales of these creatures have trickled down generation after generation and today

10. Tsunami Monster
On March 11, 2011, a magnitude-9 earthquake shook northeastern Japan, unleashing a savage tsunami.
The effects of the great earthquake were felt around the world, from Norway's fjords to Antarctica's ice
sheet. Tsunami debris has continued to wash up on North American beaches years later.
However, while some people were stuck on top of buildings as the tsunami rushed in, a strange thing
was caught on camera. What appears to be like a shape shifting entity, it jumps from a tree into water
and then onto a building before finally disappearing into thin air.
People have come up with all sorts of conclusions, while some say this is just the outcome you get from
a bad quality camera and others say it the expelling gases from a container, many still believe this was a

9. Selkie Mermaids
Selkies Mermaids are creatures found in Faroese, Icelandic, Irish, and Scottish mythology. They have the
ability to transform themselves from seal to human form. Selkies are able to shapeshift by shedding
their seal skin, a risky endeavor because they must reapply the same skin in order to return to seal form.
Stories surrounding these creatures are usually romantic tragedies. They are allowed to make contact
with humans for only a short amount of time before they must return to the sea. In many cases humans
have unknowingly fallen in love with Selkies.
Other times, humans have hidden the skin of the Selkie, thus preventing it from returning to seal form.
Male Selkies are very handsome in their human form, and have great seduction powers over women. If
a man finds and steals a female Selkies skin then she will be under his control and is often times forced
to become his wife. The creatures have been known to lure humans into the sea, by creating illusions
and a false sense of reality.
8. Yeti

In Himalayan folklore, the Yeti is a monstrous creature. The entity would later come to be referred to as
the Abominable Snowman in western popular culture. The names Yeti and Meh-Teh are commonly used
by the people indigenous to the region, and are part of their folk beliefs.
The Nepalese people believe that the Yeti is a nocturnal creature and it whistles and growls and has the
strength to kill a human with a single punch! There have been numerous sighting of the Yeti and the first
ever recorded sighting goes back to 1951 when an English mountaineer Eric Shipton was on an
expedition to scale the Mount Everest. He took the first photographs of the Yeti’s footsteps. He
searched his lifetime for the magnificent beast that could survive such dangerous climates which no
other human could survive and died in his quest.
Moving towards Europe, specifically Eastern European countries have also reported numerous
encounters with the Yeti and also associated the disappearances of a number of researchers and
explorers to this beast.
7. Big Foot

Bigfoot is a big part of the indigenous folklore of the Pacific Northwest depicted as a cannibalistic hairy
man like creature that roams the great forests and mountains of the region, abducting children in the
dead of night and sabotaging the salmon-catching nets of local fishermen.
Americans have been obsessed with the Sasquatch, later renamed as the Bigfoot, and the hunt has been
ongoing for decades. There have been multiple reports of sightings, however, most of those turned out
to be a hoax but some still hold a very strong claim.
