I’ve been watching your videos for over 4 years now and I love them. I’m a solo traveler when I come to Edinburgh and long for the day I come with someone else, to be able to impress them with my (your) knowledge would be brilliant 😀

You're right hanging was a big occasion where people consumed large amounts of alcohol. The next day after the hanging was over they’d be suffering. That’s where the word “ Hangover “ comes from.

I laughed way to much at your “spirits” joke. Love your videos, Tony, I had the inside scoop on places when I visited this past December.

We always love your videos and, seeing as we're staying in the Grassmarket in the near future, we've been reviewing any you've done that focus on it. Thanks for the information and interesting bits of history.

Yo! This is so cool man! I like to spend a bit of time in Edinburgh but I'm not too familiar with its history. This video is excellent, I can't wait to travel back and have a wee wander around Grassmarket!

My wife, a nurse, trained at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary from 1974 to 1978, and remember the Grassmarket as being famous for its homeless hostels.

Hi Tony...there is also another Flodden Wall marker at the bottom of the steps...spotted it on Thursday on my way down the steps.

In 2006 my wife proposed to me (yes, that way round and I said "yes"!) in Gennaro's Italian restaurant in the Grassmarket. Alas, that restaurant is no more but the area holds a special place in my heart ❤️

Just found your videos and really enjoying them. I am in my 60s Edinburgh born and bred and have always been interested in the history of the city but there is always something new to learn. I knew about all the execution sites but not the one near the playhouse so thanks for the info.

In mid May this year they were filming the t.v. show Rebus in the Grassmarket. I know this because I was trying to find Greyfriars and walked through the set right up to Richard Rankin - oops! But being a fan, he was so kind to grant a photo. I had great luck!

Just recently went on a vacation with my wife and kids to Edinburgh, we had stayed in an apartment within Fiddles Close, fascinating history all around you there, so much to take in. We had been informed that The Last Drop pub on the Grass Market was a place to take the people who were destined for the gallows for a shot of whiskey, this was a way for them to loosen up so the hanging would work properly. Will certainly be returning back to Edinburgh in the near future, even though the costs from Canada can be enormous 😆
