"Headkeeper" recorded live at The Troubadour in Los Angeles in 1972

Alone Together was the debut solo album by former Traffic member Dave Mason. Performing with Mason was a roster of guest musicians, including Bonnie Bramlett, Leon Russell, Eric Clapton, Jim Capaldi, Rita Coolidge, Carl Radle and Jim Gordon.

The song "Only You Know and I Know" reached number #42 on the Billboard charts in the US and was the record's major commercial success.[2]

The LP record itself was not the traditional black vinyl as about 30% of the albums produced were a swirled mix of pink, brown and beige, typically referred to as "marble vinyl", as noted on at least one commercial vinyl record website

Lyrics
Who am I talking to it's just myself
I talk to the wall when I talk with someone else
Only a few that I met really knew
Why so many good things had so much abuse

(CHORUS)
I can't stop from worrying
About the things we do
I can't stop loving
Without it nothing would seem true

I've got my dreams about the way it's gonna be
I'd share it all with someone real not make-believe
It sometimes gets hard to see the wood from the tree
But when things are right then no questions will I need

(CHORUS)

The scenery's changed but my feelings remain
Laughter and pain and love is still the same
Something worth having doesn't come too easily
A man needs the challenge or a man couldn't be

Still applies. For all of us. It always will.

Wow, this song is as fresh now as it was back in '72. Never gets old. Timeless. Dae comes to the Brighton Cntr. for the Performing Arts (here in Michigan) now and again. I saw him there in 2007. "Something worth having doesn't come too easily, a man needs the challenge or a man couldn't be"

I love this man's music. I saw him perform waaaay back in the late 70's, but I began listening to his music much earlier. I grew up with this quality music as part of the soundtrack of my youth. Dave and his song were with me during some of the greatest times of my life. And now, his music is the caretaker of those most priceless memories.

A groundbreaking album by Dave Mason for those of us who had the foresight to save this album from 1970 as it came in a marbel looking vinyl. I checked at a rare records store and was told they would give me 50 bucks for it. Think I'll just hand on to it. Any way this is filled with great tunes..

This is not the original from the album. And this song is not about loneliness. It's about being alone which is quite different.
