When I was a little girl my mom made pies and gave me the extra dough to put cinnamon and sugar on top and baked it. I’m 58 now and my mom is in a Nursing Home with advanced dementia. My mom always did that and I continued the tradition. My son called them pie crust bones so I found a dog bone cookie cutter and started making him bones! He now makes pies for his family and bones for himself and his children.

My Grammy would reroll it spead butter, sugar and cinnamon cut into little pinwheels and bake.

That was a common thing to do back in the 50s-60s except we would mix the cinnamon with the sugar so that it would be uniform rather than risking too strong of cinnamon flavor on some like you experienced there.

I always cooked the leftover dough for my children with sugar and cinnamon on them. We all loved them. Actually, the pie crust is my favorite part of the pie, I'll eat their leftover pie crust from off the pies. For some reason, they liked the pie crust cookies better than it being part of the pie. I don't mind, more pie crust for me. 😋
