Does the weight of burning paper increase? Of course not. So why does the weight of the burning paper in this video increase?
The reason is that steel wool is hidden inside the paper you see in the video. When you burn paper, the water inside evaporates and various gases are released into the air, causing its weight to decrease. However, when the hidden steel wool starts to burn, its weight increases again. This is because when steel wool burns, the carbon inside reacts with the oxygen in the air to form iron oxide. This increases the weight of the steel wool.

Technically it u apply heat/energy to something it’s weight would increase but it’s so minimal that it can’t be measured.

There’s one flaw to this that is CO2 the gas requires carbon from the paper meaning it does lose incremental mass even though it is not the main reason. For the scale changing

Hmmm, it goes from 11 to 1.7, not 17. How does someone spend time making a video not see this. Perhaps it’s intentional? It goes to .4 for a bit because the paper gets some lift during burning and when it’s just ash, no more lift.

Did he just say that the CARBON in the steel wool combines with oxygen. I think it's IRON!
