At a news conference on Parliament Hill, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau provides an update on the federal government’s response to the COVID-19 (coronavirus disease) pandemic. The prime minister is joined by Dr. Theresa Tam, Canada’s chief public health officer, and Dr. Howard Njoo, the deputy chief public health officer. In response to questions from reporters, the prime minister says he does not believe that a possible national lockdown and invocation of the Federal Emergencies Act are necessary to address the surge in cases. He is also asked about the Conservative party's motion calling on his government to make a decision regarding Huawei's role in Canada's 5G network within 30 days. Trudeau faces questions as well on the highly critical report from the information commissioner about the RCMP's failure to meet access-to-information requirements.
