I used to have one! I was a kid and couldn't figure out the speaker looking thing and assumed it was just for design. It played cassettes and had an am/fm radio and that's all the functions I remembered. I got it for probably 20 bucks and it stopped working after a few months.

I did some research on it. Pretty sure it’s just a cassette player with GameCube branding. They did the same thing with the n64 and game boy with them both getting stuff under the brand but not actually being related to it

This is a real item it cane out in 2002 and it came in purple and blue and there was even a GameCube am/fm radio that cane out the same year but that’s all I know about it

It's gotta be just because it's old and out of production/discontinued. Original Walkmans go for anywhere from $100-$1000 but a modern portable cassette player is $10-$20.

I just did research on this portable stereo and to be honest, I never knew it exsisted until I watched this short.

It was a promo product made by Sakar and there were 3 different models as far as I can see. There was the one in the image thats behind you, there was another one that looked like a regular portable stereo that just has the Nintendo GameCube logo in it, and a karaoke model that looks like the round one and instead of headphones it came with a headset with mic.

I think there was also something similar with the Nintendo 64. I think it was a Nintendo 64-branded portable AM/FM radio or something.
