As a teacher, yes, some revamping of our educational system needs to happen at all levels, but so does parent involvement and being informed on your kid's grades (parents have not idea if their kid is passing and leave it up to the child to handle business) Many of us growing up had parents that read to us, asked about homework or grades, attended parent conferences or meetings, and stressed the importance of education. Today, many of the students are 2-3 years or more behind their grade level in reading and math, due to overuse of technology for long periods of time throughout the day, behavior and disrespect issues disrupting the school day and those kids that want to learn, parents having to work (sometimes multiple jobs) and be away from home due to cost of living. Parents are using schools as extended daycare, interrupting class by texting or calling their kids, and are not supporting teachers who are trying to make a difference.

Our education system isn’t worth anything. The goal is to teach students what they need to advance in the future. The department of education isn’t going to disappear. What needs to happen is schools should be changed to online school. Schools are no longer safe and it’s time for change.

The fact that everyone is as dumb as they are, even when they have credentials behind their name, indicates that position that should be filled with the department of education on a federal level, have not served the community. And although I understand why you are afraid you should be more afraid of status quo.

It’s not as bad as you think. There is a need for cops, nurses, firefighters, plumbing dental etc. will send you to school for free bc the need is critical. The yt population is also declining which means they’ll be looking to send us to school. I graduated from CAU with out a job in my major like soooo many others. HBCU is overrated. If this pushes more of us to go to trade schools instead then I am all for it. We need careers that can’t be replaced by robots.

I said that we shift gears and start allocating funds going to college to programs that push money in underserved communoties to get business loans or grants. I have a Master's degree in Education and I barely make minimum wage.
