Verb Tense: Simple Past Tense
Verbs that describe actions done in the past are called past tense verbs.
It is a verb tense that is used to talk about things that happened or existed
before now.
The simple past tense emphasizes that the action is finished.
Rules in Forming the Simple Past Tense of Verbs
1. For regular verbs ending in consonants, add –ed to the base form of the verb.
Example:

cook cooked
count counted
crush crushed
haunt haunted
2. For regular verbs ending in an e, add –d to the base form of the verb.
Examples:

3. For verbs that end in a consonant and y, change the y to i then add –ed to the base form of the verb.
