'One Hour Dress'? New Look 6347

Want to make a dress in one hour? I probably can't help you... but I can entertain you for about 20 minutes!

I tried to make a simple dress from a simple pattern. It didn't work out for me, but I did get some inspiration from the experience. I also learned a thing or two!

I enjoy watching your videos because 1) you show that everyone makes mistakes and 2) even though you get frustrated, you never give up.

Thank you! New Look patterns will never be purchased by me! I made one, that was a mess, watched you, and decided to avoid them like the Plague! I've sewed for well over 50 years, and I'd rather sew Vogue blindfolded than ever touch a New Look again!

It seams like this was your first big sew? Just remember our first sews are like the first pancakes you make… usable but not always perfect. Make sure you give yourself leeway and Grace. I’ve found the hardest part of sewing is picking out the fabric. You’ve got this.

You have patience. I have an uncut copy of the same pattern in my stash. Thanks to your video, not only will I look at the finished garment measurements, I will also measure the pattern. If it works out to be too complex, in the bin it will go ❤️ 🇬🇧

I was going to make this dress today. Thought I’d see if there was anything on YouTube, so glad I did. Now looking for another pattern. Thank you.

I’ve done this, made a dress too big. It sat in my wardrobe for six months waiting for me to come up with a plan to save it.
I put it in the trash can. It’s finally out of my house and I don’t have to worry about it.
I’m very pleased about it now.

This is the BEST SEWING VIDEO EVER!!! I love the "Mysteries of Udolfo" frame, it's just great. Don't kid yourself: a lot of content is so nausea ding that people turn the sound down. Nobody will ever do that for one of your videos! Besides, who hasn't been suckered into one of those "one hour" patterns? The money these charletons have pocketed off of our lost innocence! (brushes away a tear) YOU had the guts to document the whole, sordid story AND you finished the dress! Pat yourself on the back!

This is why I stopped making clothes and stuck with quilts!
One hour should include cutting as well as sewing!

I thoroughly enjoyed your video! LOL Watching you took me back to my own sewing times! Many years ago I sewed for myself…and made matching dresses when I had two little daughters! I thought it was cool that we matched but they grew out of that phase real quick🙄 Then we had two little boys and I had very little time to sew anything. I started buying dresses on the clearance rack…and Goodwill…and nowadays just use my sewing machine for alterations and mending. Occasionally I stop and page through the new pattern books but it’s just wishful thinking…I wish you much success and joy in your sewing adventures!! ☺️

Thank you for making this video. Very refreshing to see your mistakes and walk alongside you as you find ways to rectify them. I have a hard to fit body and have loads of problems with patterns so everything takes a million times longer. Plus my sewing is actually quite slow and I’m always unpicking.
Thanks for helping me feel better about my level of ability by being so natural about it all

I'm almost convinced to put this pattern in the back of the drawer 🤣

Love the video and how you committed you were to make it work. I made the same dress and had same issues but, made it in a rayon that had more drape. So, it made it almost wearable. I put these type of dresses in the 'house dress' category of my closet. Things I wear around the house:) Love your sense of humor as well.

Never give up, never surrender! 😂 Always happy to find someone who is...um... let's say "less precise" in their sewing. Makes me feel a lot better about my own beginner journey, that's for sure!

Make a quilt from your mistakes and never tell. It happens. :)

I admire your perseverance. You got there in the end. I'm a slow sewer and have learned that that's ok and to enjoy the process. No one knows how long something took you to make - they're just so impressed with the end result. (Well, until I inevitably point out the flaws. 😁)
It's so true that everything else we feel we should be doing could expand to fill our whole lives if we let it. Sometimes we just need to sit down and sew! (Until a dog visits. It's only right that everything stops for that kind of huge love.)
You're hilarious and I can't wait to see what you make next. x
