Example of poor provider - Gran Torino

In the movie Gran Torino Clint Histwood is grooming Thao to become more of a provider.

This scene where he lends him the car indirectly implies Thao is too low value for her.
By framing his date on a bus as "not good enough" and needing "something better", it implies that he must step up his game, thus underlying the value disparity between him and her:

Walt was proud of Thao right there. Notice how Thao had changed from earlier in the movie to this scene? He seemed more confident and more of a man. That was because of Walt. I’d like to think Thao marries Yum Yum and they have kids and tell their children about how Walt saved Thao and Sue. They go to Walt’s grave often and pray and leave gifts in his honor.

A man that trusts you with his Gran Torino is a man that's willing to die for you!! Hands down!!

He started seeing Thao more as a son than his own sons.

Not a bad thing to work hard for a significant other. She liked him enough to not care about taking a bus, being offered a car for the night doesn’t change the dynamic at all.

Walt announcing he was planning to make a move on Yum-Yum may be my favorite line of the movie.

Walt had a lot of resources, advice that he was willing to give...if only people respected him. That's why Tao got everything

I like that "yeah really" at the end it is like Walt surprised himself and is really happy because for the first time in a long time perhaps ever he is able to trust someone to that extent and he realizes he doing something good for someone else which is in direct contrast to how he responded to Sue's initial assertion that Walt liked Thao.

At that moment, Tao became really his 'son'

This movie is so beautiful, Clint Eastwood is on a whole different level from any actor or actress in film today. Seeing a Korean war veteran fall in love with his new community, and this beautiful family that he realized meant the world to him, it's one of the most powerful films ever made.

I disagree. Women want to marry into good families, where they will be taken care of. Walt is Thao's surrogate father.
