Why Waiting Until 65 HUGE MISTAKE (the 3 stages of retirement)

💲 NEED FINANCIAL ADVICE? 💲
1) Google "fee-only financial adviser" or visit www.NAPFA.org (largest association of fee-only financial advisers). NOT an affiliate link
2) The first question to ask any financial adviser is, "Are you a fiduciary to me 100% of the time". Get the answer in writing
3) Please note that some people call themselves "fee-based". This is NOT the same as fee-only. Fee-only advisers have committed to being fiduciary to you 100% of the time.
4) Personally, I would only hire an adviser who is a fiduciary to me 100% of the time. This is not a suggestion on what you should do. Just sharing my personal preference.

⚠️ Azul's "Scammer" Warning ➡ PLEASE READ! ⚠️
Be careful of scammers. In the comments section, I will NEVER ask you to contact me, offer any investment products, recommend a stock broker, or anything similar. Some scam bot commenters 'ask' for investment help, and later, other comment bots reply with "how great X idea/investment/person is" in the replies. These are scam threads. Do not fall for them.

🚨 Azul's VIDEOS ARE NOT FINANCIAL ADVICE (Disclaimer) 🚨

The decisions on how to invest, when to retire, and other financial planning topics are some of the most important financial decisions you will make in your life. I urge you to seek professional financial advice as you make this decision. Ideally, from a financial adviser, AND a CPA AND an attorney. Having the perspective of all three professions will help you make the right decision for you and your family.

This information is being presented without consideration of the investment objectives, risk tolerance, or financial circumstances of any specific investor and may NOT be suitable for all investors.

This information is NOT intended to, and should NOT, form a primary basis for any investment decision that you may make. Always consult your own legal, tax, and/or investment advisor before making any investment/tax/estate/financial planning considerations or decisions.

Spoiler Alert: There are no "get rich" programs. Rather, just basic blocking & tackling and putting in time and care. Do your homework, choose wisely and (IMHO) work with experienced professionals who are fiduciary to you 100% of the time.

We moved to 🇫🇷France 20 years ago when I was 58. Zero health issues now at age 78. Always lived healthy lifestyle. Never smoked.
Dance 💃 walk 🚶‍♀️and learn every day. Manage my own portfolio well aware of the debt which is unsustainable. My husband made it to almost 100. 😊

Thank you for reminding us how precious our health and quality of life is. You always have an impact on myself and my small band of followers. I wish you the best with your heart issues.

I've kept much of my savings in cash for safety, but I'm unsure if it's right for retirement. Contemplating investing $400K in stocks, as I've heard investors can profit in tough times. Unsure about my next move.

We have our home paid for, I paid off my 2021 vehicle a couple of mos ago… we have my husbands vehicle paid off shortly after first of the year. We don’t have a huge stockpile of money but we have about 300k with 401k’s, IRA’s, and savings. I am 65 and he is 70. We hope to enjoy doing all the things we want to do in the next 10 years “go-go” years with our health and then coast along enjoying the “golden years”. Call me crazy but I think it’s time to enjoy what we worked for all our lives. PS - we both plan to retire in late summer 2025.

I don't really blame people who panic. Lack of
information can be a big hurdle. I've been
making more than $200k passively by just
investing through an advisor, and I don't have
to do much work. Inflation or no inflation, my
finances remain secure. So I really don't blame
people who panic

Don't simply retire from something; have something to retire to. Start saving, keep saving, and stick to investments...

How can they count the ones that retired really early? We are in the '2%' but how does a gov't know? Surely we're in a larger group than 2% quietly.

I'm just short of 65, always had good health. Non smoker, not a regular drinker. However, you never know how healthy for how long. A family friend two weeks ago - healthy, fit etc etc. then heart attack at 63. I'm in semi-retirement working a side hustle. I don't know where the time has gone to date but for sure the clock is ticking and all I can think is well if I get the next 15 to 20 years in and still be healthy - that will be good - you never know though! I am 67 and currently semi-retired in my small business. Not sure if I will actually retire. I love my job. Guess I am like Warren Buffet except I'm in excellent health.

Almost 67 and just about to retire. Baring anything unforeseen I'll have a decade or more of really active years, and probably 20+ years of good mobility. As long as I can move and serve others I'll be content.

I'm personally doing things different. I dropped back to working only 6 months a year in my 40's being half retired. Still paying into SS and contributing to 401k. But been traveling 6 months a year for 8 years now. I don't think retired or not retired (black or white) is the answer. There is a lot of in-between.

Azul, what about the additional cost of Heath insurance if you retire early without benefits? I’m 56. My college age kids depend on my Heath Indian benefits and my last child turns 26 when I’m 62. With jobs these days I don’t know if they will get benefits and two of three of my kids have chronic health conditions. I love my job by the way though hoping to cut back in a few years. I’m 56

Azul what you are talking about is Healthy Life Expectancy at birth. A more accurate measure is Healthy Life Expectancy at 60. At 60 if you are still healthy, a male in the US has still over 15 years of Healthy lifespan remaining based on WHO data 2021.

What this data says to me is stop worrying about saving for retirement. All the money will either be paid towards healthcare or you'll be dead.

What do all those countries at the top of the list have that the US doesn't?? True Universal Health Care. That plays a huge role in life expectancy.

Hello Azul

I was just laid off after 20 years on same job. I am 60. Can I retire now?. I am in Google health.

Have about 400k in 401k. House has 125k remaining balance and is worth about 500k.

Not much debt.

Totally agree with retiring early to make the most of those healthy years! I’m exploring more ways to grow my retirement outside the usual stuff, and just started with My Digital Money to diversify into crypto. Feels like it could help add some balance to traditional investments. Anyone else looking at crypto for retirement?
