How to install a dimmer switch for your LED lights.

Nick explains how he installed a dimmer switch for the new energy efficient lighting.

You too can switch out a standard light switch to an LED compatible dimmer switch. LED lights are significantly more energy efficient than incandescent lights and even better than CFL lights.

Great tutorial! A suggestion I have for any DIYers is to test voltage by placing your meter lead on the grounding (green or bare) conductor instead of the box in the event that your box is plastic and not metal. A plastic box will read no voltage even if the power is still on. Stay safe! Thanks for the video

What’s the difference between led compatible and a regular dimmer switch if the load is the same?

what do you do for 3 lights in a hall (so two switches) as far as LED switch type goes? I've got 3 x 28watts = 84 watts total. Do I use a dimmer of 150 watts?

Since this is single OR a 3 way switch, please look to another video for the 3 way wiring. I installed a 3 way using this video (same exact switch) and then connected the final wire to the last available screw. Seemed like that would be right but was not. The wire going to the different color screw (common) needed to stay on the different color screw on the new switch for the 3 way setup.

new subscriber here 👍🏼 question? I want to replace a switch where it has 2 switches and a 2 outlets on 1 box. I took one out and I don't see the ground wire hooked up, so can I get away with not hooking it up?

The fins/tabs on the side are for cooling and rating of the switch the more you remove the less it can handle

Thanks - I recently learned that LED lights need special dimmer switches.

there is no neutral wire on a switch....there would be a ground wire, a hot wire feeding the switch, and a potentially hot wire going to the device downstream.

I am wanting to change an old dimmer switch to a remote controlled one. When I took off the plate and removed the old switch from the box, I only see two wires that are capped connecting the dimmer to the power. I don’t see a ground wire coming out of the box. What do I do with the ground wire coming out of the new dimmer switch? Thanks for your help!

Great video and very well explained throughout. Just a hint though when showing how to test the switch is safe using your voltage tester it may be an idea not to have it on the ‘hold’ setting. I know its just for demonstration purposes and your probably not actually testing the feed but just an observation.

*Disconnect the Hot wire, Hot wire, and Ground* (It’s a switch)

Probably should have done the cutting before turning the power back on
