This follows both Christianity & Buddhism beliefs. Where you have to allow yourself to let God/love or the force in. Your connection with the force or god can and will let you be spiritually enlightened. Why the Jedi choose to not have attachment was to make it easier for them to connect to the force or to be enlightened. This is wrong since with Christianity & Buddhism, you connection with the world & its suffering is what fulfills you & gets you to be a better person. The force or God is your connection to the spiritual plane while you have are attached to the world. To be spiritual free or enlightened is to let go of all attachments like friends, family & love ones, meaning not caring about their suffering or the world. This is why Buddha forsaken Nirvana to instead help his people find salvation. This is the story of Jesus as well.
