“Take This Free Gift” #wait

Accepting gifts in exchange for brand promotion might feel flattering at first, but it often means you're doing work for free that you should absolutely be paid for. As a content creator, your time, audience, creativity, and influence have real value — and brands know it. Sending a product and asking for a post is essentially asking you to advertise for them without proper compensation.

When you accept only a gifted product, you're allowing a brand to benefit from your platform without paying for your labour, storytelling, or content production skills. This sets a precedent that your work doesn’t need to be financially valued — and it can undercut other creators trying to earn a living.

It's okay to say no to gifts and ask for payment. In fact, it’s necessary if you want to grow as a professional in this space. Creator work is real work, and it deserves real compensation.

Please talk about medical omerta, which is when doctors refuse to blow the whistle on negligent doctors, or refuse to make a diagnosis which may get a negligent doctor in trouble. Doctors close ranks on patients who have been hurt by doctors. Theres an old saying "Doctors hang together, nurses hang themselves".
