Probably my favorite faction in Lego Classic Space. Cool lore and I personally love the color scheme and printing design on the characters and vehicles. Definitely agree the base is lackluster but the spacecraft and robots have a really unique retro charm to them. If I had to pick two favorites it would be the Saucer Centurion and the Recon Robot. Being underrated also makes this theme still attainable for a collector getting into Lego Space.

"The Dark Forest of classic space" is a great description of Spyrius. Lego really needs to bring back factions in both space and castle!

This space faction seems a lot of fun. I mostly remember the big robot from the catalogue. I like how Major Kartofski is a significant chatacter, but the idea of an evil AI running an espionage organisation is kind of scary.

I was a kid when these were coming out. I think something people born in the 90s don't realize, a lot of us 80s kids first legos came form the 70s. Like used Town basic building sets or just a ton of bricks. So when you get this with some many custom parts, it is amazing. I remember amazed by the hemlets and faces since they were just the simple smiley face. Never knew they were the villain haha. Brings back so many memories.

The Robo-Guardian was the only big classic space set I had as a kid. I recently bought it on Bricklink, and I think I might collect the whole theme since there's only 6 sets and none of them are really unreasonably expensive (most of them are quite affordable, in fact).
Spyrius was also the last space theme that used the neon grid background that had been in use since Futuron and Blacktron, and the last theme that was advertised in catalogs as sharing a setting with earlier themes (specifically Ice Planet and Space Police II), so even if you don't consider it the end of classic space it is definitely an end of one era of classic space (though Exploriens would appear in some commercials with Spyrius, they weren't advertised together in the catalogs in the same way as previous themes).

I think the whole Spyrius thing was an attempt to keep things kid friendly. Like you have the Space Police, so they need villains to work against, but it needs to be a non-violent crime they're stopping, so spying works XD

Huh, I never though of Spyrius as bag guys, but that kinda makes sense. Love the deep dives!

Huh, I always thought Major Kartofski was the character with the mustache, not the robot. I had all of these sets except the base and I had some extras from poly bags and the minifigure set. I always had one of the mustache guys as their leader.

Maybe you guys knew this and forgot to mention it, but one awesome extra feature of the Robo-Guardian is that you can detach the arms above the elbows via the technic pins and plug them into the sides of the head when it goes into flight mode. My favorite feature, it was always the "final form" at the end of any battle after the body of the guardian was destroyed

I only ever had the robots of this set, but they are by far the coolest out of this theme to me.

I got the 2 robot sets when i was a kid. I recently rebuilt them, and they're still awesome play sets.

Blacktron II "Aerial Intruder" also launced a rover via a different clever mechanism.

I enjoyed this look at these space theme-I had more Ice Planet at the time. Did have the Saucer Scout, and I forget until you showed it that I had the combo kit with castle-It is a cool kit with nice play feature of changing the ship of the ship, prefer the other shape than the one pictured (Rebrickable pictures the other configuration)-enjoyed that one, will have to be sure to re-build it when I switch my collection over to space from western (I rotate my collection thru different kits/mocs). Mark, if you modify the base, I'd enjoy seeing it on your channel!

The arms of the robot can be removed and attached on the side of the main head.

In regards to Major Kartofski: to "cart off" with something is to steal it, so his name is apt.

I was lucky last year on a Fleamarket and found about 1/3 of the Lunar Launch Site Set mixed with some other stuff for 15€. Since then i am on a hunt for completion of the Spyrius Theme. Who knows what i´ll find this year. I need that baseplate though. I like the idea of tracing the parts in the wild rather than going online and buying them single.

I think one of the reasons why Spyrius didn't age as well as other themes is because they kinda ran out of color schemes by then. Also coming more or less directly after Ice Planet didn't help much either.
