WASHINGTON — U.S. and international media are having a freedom of information party following the public release of several thousand emails from former secretary of state Hillary Clinton.
The U.S. Department State released a fresh batch of 7,000 pages of worth emails from Clinton's private email server Monday. The 2016 presidential candidate used a personal account maintained on a private server at her home in Chappaqua, in upstate New York, to conduct government business during her tenure as secretary of state.
Clinton maintains there was no classified information in those emails, but around 150 emails have been upgraded to classified. This has stirred controversy among her opponents.
The emails reveal that the 67-year-old once asked a media aide for iPad lessons, or hPad as the email calls it. She also consoled her buddy, Dave Miliband, the former UK foreign secretary, after he lost the 2010 Labour leadership election to his little brother Ed. Hillary also apparently emailed an aide asking for the times of Parks and Recreation as well as The Good Wife.
Clinton asked staffers "Where are we on this?" in an email entitled Gefilte fish, reportedly in reference to a trade dispute with Israel. She also twice asked staff to print an email from an advertising executive suggested the creation of HRC University.
Longtime Clinton advisor Sid Blumenthal says in an email to Hillary that John Boehner is "louche, alcoholic, lazy, and without any commitment to any principle."
When asked to praise a staffer who stayed awake for 100 hours to write her a speech, she replied, "I did once before speech and will do again. Thx to all."
And in a hilariously ironic twist, the State Department's IT guys apparently didn't recognize her personal address at one point.
Thousands more emails are set to be made public in the following months.
