That line of reasoning does’t hold up. “We won’t use the clock of any participant in the transaction, instead we’ll use an arbitrary clock where we still have to figure out the interest rate and the rate of time”. To which I would ask, how will we determine what that timescale is? Video: “Uhhh… gotta go!”

Coming from the same economist who said “the internet is a fad and will be gone by 2006”

Krugman is a brilliant guy, but if this video is correct, he is wrong. Part of the problem with Krugman is he both steps out of his lane way too often, and he also gets misunderstood. Interest rates should be determined by the parties involved.

Time would elapse more slowly for the person moving faster... But also, time would stop for someone traveling AT the speed of light

What was the interest rate for voyages to the New world 500 yrs ago? :)

Would love to see a video that actually goes into the depths of these arguments rather than just being a teaser...

Interesting stuff. The way he framed it, I think there's going to be a problem with transmitting said "absolute clock's time information" because then you have to basically :
1. Keep a clock for every shipment. Probably doable.
2. Transmit the data "in time", which requires infrastructures. Massive infrastructures.
3. Keep a journal of everything going on in relativistic time over a massive amount of shipment. "Dude, you're 8 years ahead. Gimme time to calculate the interest."
I think it's easier just simply leave the interest rates to both party duking it out over beers.

Keugman is a quack. "The internet will be no more influential than the fax machine" Nice prediction

I'ts wrong since send information will take time too and there is no way to send information instantly. So the best solution is the rate is based on distance.

This is such a stupid thing to put out.
Brushing aside the problems with relativity:
"Your goods are free but you'll have to wait 100yrs for them to arrive"
The time cost is always from the buyer's perspective and always has been. If you can deliver product X first or faster you win. It's always been that way. Why would "space" change that?

I feel both annoyed and prideful that I not only understand this video but know why it is an important issue.
