Of course it works it's basically physics you have a little bit of extra weight and push the water upwards by adding mass or matter sort of like when you're in the bathtub and you've already poured water and the water rises up if a heavy object is put in the water naturally able to place some of the water around it pushing it upward

I think it has to do with the surface tension of the water. You're pushing against it, so it moves the suspended cups. 🤔👍🏼👍🏼+😘🥰
