How Turnbuckles Saved Old Wooden Houses

Показать описание
Why were the columns of old wooden houses compressed with turnbuckles?
This method was essential for strengthening weakened columns and restoring historic buildings. The decayed or damaged section of a column was removed, and turnbuckles were installed to compress and lift the remaining structure.
This method increased the wood’s load-bearing capacity and helped prevent collapse while preserving the building’s historical character.

When someone who has no idea about the topic feeds the AI so that it cobbles together content that it has no idea about.

Correct script: turnbuckles are being used as jacks, outside their operating specifications and in the absence of safety oversight.

The ancient Han Dynasty Husqvarna knockoff chainsaw was indispensable to preserving this ancient Mingaling Dynasty Termite Castle.

Compress and lift.
That is clearly the opposite of each other.

Its almost like there's actual tool made for this with way less of a chance of slipped out and killing someone.

It does not look like the columns are being compressed. It looks like they are being jacked up.

Actually no. Those are for "settling" a log home. They creak pop and bang when its done. My Dad used to do it and build them.

Honestly its very environmentally friendly to build houses out of wood. Less wood in the forest lest forest fires. Plus our houses are plastic so that burns even faster due to the oil in plastic

I also wouldn't use this things as a jack at an angle without an anchor point on the ground to lift sometime straight up while cutting underneath them. 🙈

The beam only needs to be slightly bent and all that shit will fly around your surroundings.

But they're using turn buckles with literal hooks that should show they're meant to pull, not push. Ontop of that they're pushing up on the supports by balancing the round part on the top of the hook on a piece of rebar hammered into the wood. There's no way those won't slip off if they're just a few mm off center, or just have to much weight in general since they're not Jack's.

Are they being used to compress the columns or lift them? Because those are kind of opposite of each other.

Bro is confused between compression and tension

Lots of commentary lacking knowledge. The column is definitely being compressed. I hope my post doesn't cause any tension 😂
