Grand Master Dong Jin Kim Tribute Video (2017)

Master Dong Jin Kim was a strong influence in my younger years and I looked up to him as an example. I was very blessed to have met Master Kim where I met him as a younger recruit of the Fiji Police Force Basic Recruits Course in 1992, at the Fiji Police Academy in Suva, Fiji. There were close to 200 recruits from Fiji and the Marshall Islands. I had the privilege of training under him then. His approach to martial arts and the application of skills which he taught in the disciplined forces has left a legacy of thousands of civilian and armed forces personnel who have undergone similar training around Fiji. Several private self-defense schools and disciplined forces-sanctioned combat institutions have been established over the years that trace lineage from Master Kim. His influence has shifted the martial arts paradigm from much earlier only Karate or Kung Fu schools to a more practical and relevant modern self-defense system based on his decades of experience and training. His respect, loyalty and adherence to his Japanese and Korean martial arts roots challenged every notion of what martial arts was for Fijian society up to that moment in time. There are thousands of martial artists who have trained directly under him, his personally certified instructors, or have been influenced by his teachings in Fiji. As a person who has served and trained under him or his personally certified instructors, the privilege of having grown through his service among my people is priceless and honored. I am obliged to extend my sincere gratitude to Master DJ Kim for his influence in my life as a mentor, trainer and master. Thank you very much for your service in our beloved nation, kamsahamnida, vinakavakalevu. Rest in peace MASTER.

He was my Master in the Island of Pohnpei (FSM). My first Martial Arts teacher and fishing teacher, Well Respected Man and i will never forget his teachings. RIP MASTER

he was my master in Fiji. he gave me one on one lessons in hapkido and kendo for many years. i was even at his wedding. I will forever remember and cherish my time with Master Kim.

I am humbled to have been his assistant for 9 yrs. I grew into the Dan's with Master Kim. The training was very intense and hard, but possible. We did outings like island hopping and fishing, golf, traveling both locally and abroad, had meals at each other's place often.
Shared the good times and hard times, and looking back, I feel privileged to have gained all those years with Master Dong Jin Kim.
My sincere condolences to Mrs Hannah Kim for the loss of a Mentor, Master, and great husband whose legacy is living on.
