Twitter users have problems thinking critically about a lot of things, especially when they aren't being told how to think. It's likely not solely an issue of Sparkle being evil, it's that they want to play as her but cannot justify themselves playing as a person they don't completely empathize with and support. They do the same thing to authors who write about controversial topics, assuming that because someone has written about the issue they must also believe in and support that same viewpoint. In their eyes, anybody who plays Sparkle is agreeing with how she treats Aventurine and any other horrible things she does in the story, and are therefore horrible people themselves.

I don't see the racism here, she is using a stereotype to insult him as a way to gain control over the conversation. The point of every insult she throws at him is that he is untrustworty, manipulative and deceitful, and she would never work with somebody she already knows only wants to use her, exploit her and betray her later. We also know that the ICP is a hypercapitalist institution without scruples, so while we don't know if Aventurine's race does live up to the stereotype, we know everything she said to him applies to the ICP, so she isn't wrong to use that way of speach to reject him. More over, the insult is not that his people are manipulators and traitors, but that HE lives up to the stereotype, being the one that brings shame to his kind. Sparkle right now is the most ambiguous character in the story, and she was a total Asshole to Sunday by moking him right after the death of his sister, but racist? That´s a streatch

Despite that, though, she deserves a beating for sending Trailblazer and Firefly to Something Unto Death, impersonating the dead, and for being a bigoted jerk.

Context: Those people are mad not because Sparkle is racist, but because she used a real, straightforward slur for Romani people in (only) the CN dub. Basically they're mad because HYV could've made up a slur for Aven's fictional race instead of letting Sparkle use a real one. I know this because I actively browse art on TikTok and come across these controversies as a side consequence 😂 I wanna hear all your thoughts now that I said it cos most of you seem confused where the racism/slur is. It's not in the EN dub this video is showing.

Edit: My opinion is that the reactions are overblown. However, it could've been more immersive if they made up a slur since HSR race logic doesn't resemble the real world's. Sparkle is downright a villain but I guess hearing a real slur directed to a fictional race that doesn't resemble the real race does sound kinda strange and detaching not in a moral, but rather in a storytelling perspective.

I love honkai for being more free compared to genshin, which is much more restricted in terms of wording, death cutscenes, etc. IDC about the rest of the world. The internet for some reason feels like bad-commenting everything that's not going with the flow, and it's rly annoying....I personally like how Honkai is turning out :3

the thing is, the slavic word that Sigonian is based off of(tzigan) is not a slur like the g word. It can have negative connotations, but some romani people actually prefer to be called that way, and the roma that don't want to be called that do so because it's an exonym and not a name given by themselves. It's like when the Netherlands didn't want to be named Holland.
