I’ve been talking about making this series for a while and it’s starting, today. I’m going to be talking all about book genres. The subtle distinctions between them, the massive and expansive breadth of some of them, and the debates on which ones should stay or go. I will still be doing my usual self-publishing tips and author business videos interspersed so this doesn’t just become a genre channel. But over the next few months we’ll be talking about it all. And if you have a specific genre question or comparison you would like to see my discuss, please comment below.

There are a few reasons I am so interested in really breaking this down:
I read across genres
So as no surprise I write across genres. Yeah, all under one pen name. Yep I know as an author the best practice is to have a different pen name for distinct genres. It helps the audience know what to expect and it helps the algorithms know what to recommend. And I… I am knowingly going against that. So I have a lot of thoughts on the different genres I write in.
I see a lot of booktube and authortube channels do videos about “the genre I hate” “the tropes that need to die in 2023” or some noise like that. And bless their hearts, but who cares. Not every book is for every reader. Cool, there are genres you don’t like, and there are genres I don’t like. But I’m not here to pass judgment on genres. I want to talk about the history and the nuance because perhaps as an author you are thinking “my book could fit into this genre, but also this one, which do I pick?” and if you’re interested in that, then stick around for this series.

So as we embark on this exploration of genres and genre fiction, if you are someone who thinks only literary fiction matters, then this series, and this channel, aren’t for you.

The genres I will be breaking down in this series are:
Science Fiction
“Women’s” Fiction
Fantasy
Romance
Memoir and Autobiography
Young Adult and New Adult

I think I'm writing fictional-nonfiction. Though the characters (faeries) and circumstances are fictional, it parodies real world beliefs and what inner forces determines what one is told is believed is compare-challenged by inner deepening to actually know. The (656) page I've spent ten years writing will come out the end of this November. I expect those who follow hearsay will call my claim of being able to directly know and deepening methods heresy. I find hear-sayists calling knowledge through direct experience heresy very humorous.

...not to mention the word itself comes from the French word for 'kind, or type' It's literally just a category. Leave your judgey labels at home, lol
