Speed shooting is great! But it's not /always/ the best option!

Lars Anderson also uses very light draw weight bows, something not for combat purposes, but exclusively for speed shooting

A rational mind and skilled archer! I really don't think people understand just how skilled historical archers would've been. By todays standards, 10 years of archery practice, from someone who practices maybe a few hours a day, 5 or so days a week is probably considered a very experienced and skilled archer. But people who've grown up using a bow since 4 years old, playing and training with it as a life style and relying on it for food, survival and battle will be 10 times a better archer in 10 years of when they started using a bow then the modern day archer.

You should look into Comanche’s technique for speed shooting. It really simplifies it to holding multiple arrows in your bow hand. Really is easy without losing as much power or accuracy if you train with it. Don’t know how it handles with a war bow but with the 50 lb. I use, it went really well. Apparently it is easier than multiple arrows in the other hand.

So Ranger’s Apprentice is possible if you start training with a bow from the age of 13 and keep using it throughout all your life

Amazing as always. Can't wait to see what you can do with more time behind the war bow. 😸

I do speed shooting while being under attack by an opposing team of folks chasing me down.

I find Dagorhir or Archery Tag to be perfect places to practice combat archery under stress.

The way you draw your bow is also important. When you think of archery the most common type of draw you will see is Mediterranean (three fingers), this is the olympic style of shooting. In my experience it’s good for beginners and those learning because it uses more of your arm’s strength.

Now if you specifically want to go to speed shooting I recommend the Mongolian draw (thumb draw). It was used a lot through out history and made to help knock your arrows faster and be a lot smoother while you shoot. Great examples of this is if you look up horse archery and you’ll see why it’s used. I switched to this type of draw but I will say if you want to get the most out of it it’s hard work. You have to make sure your anchor is in-line with your arm and you have to open your core/chest, this way you aren’t using the muscles in your arm but your own anatomy. I wouldn’t say it’s beginner but if you have a good teacher it’s really fun to learn and do.

Imagine a game made armor penetration a thing even for a knight's armor. Then you got an archer with +50% attack speed but -40% Armor Piercing and suddenly that head to toe, heavy armor knight was suddenly invulnerable to you.

I agree. there's some truth to it.. great shooting you elf ranger, you're very privilege to be training like that freely. well done !

Lars Anderson is an awesome trick shooter. It'd be hreat if he didn't pretend not only that that was true archery, but also that it is THE true archery and that he rediscovered those techniques (none were ever lost)

Just go for it. If you want speed. Practice is perfect.

One of my mottos is

Speed, Stealth, Precision.

Be accurate, be fast, be precise.

I want to learn archery!! 😭

When you said the thing about still making a shot beacuse of a closer range, it reminded me of the scene in the God of war (2018) When kratos and Atreus are in Alfheim. Some time before this scene Kratos said to Atreus that the Accuracy should go before speed, but in the Alfheim When they were fighting many Dark elves, Kratos said to Atreus that he has many enemies so he will make a shot.

Also, i like your content.

Dude I'm in Lars Anderson's video my name's Bo.
That video That video was many years ago I shoot 10 arrows in 28 seconds, and I'm the 3rd guy in the Box.
4 of the fastest shooters.
I'm twice as fast as the wildest archers from the past From any robinhood days King Edward days I doubled their speed.
I started this game when I was 45 years Years old I'm 65 years old today and still shooting I learned from a master Archer horse archery for speed shooting.
3 years I trained I'm a Grandmaster instructor. Master martial archery mounted instructor.

Charlie's Running Archery seems to have found something nice. More about instinctive shooting, lots of fun when you move and jump around while shooting. Makes you spend time in nature while giving a better training than stationnary shooting

Comanche held the arrows in their bow hand so that the draw was always one continuous motion.

If I remember correctly, one of the things said about the old English archers was that they could "hold up to 6 arrows in the air". Meaning that by the time they're loosing the 6th arrow, the 1st one they shot is only hitting the target.

I know this isn't related to the topic of the video, but since I did see a clip of you drawing your bow with your other hand, I'm going to take this opportunity to ask about "eye dominance Vs dominant hand"

While I've probably not shot a bow in 15+ years, I know I'm left eye dominant (thanks to eye surgery when I was a kid) and I draw bows/hold a rifle/play pool left handed effectively. I was curious if I'm an anomaly for prioritising my eye dominance over my dominant hand? Though for full clarity I'm fairly ambidextrous in most cases (until "The Incident™")

Sorry this was too long a comment/question, but I hope you found it a nice read, and that I'm not just being out of touch and not realising that your video is mirrored, which I thought of this morning... hopefully I'll get a chance to loose some arrows soon! Take care! And keep up the great work

Now I'm thinking of a gauntlet or bracer quiver that acts like a revolver pistol, but for arrows 🤔

First problem of speed shooting is that you wear quiver on the back instead of belt. You spend waaay more time on raising hand to take an arrow. When quiver on the belt you simply relax your hand and it drops in exact position to take next arrow
