They did not even test it on vehicles!💀

I really hope they can make this one work! Today we take a peek at the insides of the Chinese CCS-Chademo adapter, that so many people are flocking towards. Spoiler alert, it did not work with vehicles out of the box...

I'm actually surprised how serious this adapter looks. The outer casing seams to be injection molded and someone has made a really good job packing everything in such a small form factor. As a designer I can say that someone has put a lot of hours and some money developing this thing. I hope we will soon see a video with someone charging a Leaf with it.
This would be a real game changer for the Leaf. In Sweden where I live the ratio between CCS and CHAdeMO chargers is more then 10:1.
I would definitely buy one.

It will be a game changer for the LEAF and the Triplets if they can get a reliable CCS to ChaDeMo adapter, purely as they will now be able to access the entire network. In the UK, there are still ChaDeMo being installed, however give it 10 years and these cars will only be able to 7kW AC charge.

When the Leaf 62 and UX 300e can get in excess of 200-250 miles, it may be less of a problem. However, for the Leaf 40 (and earlier), if the price is also right this will be a game changer. I believe Muxan will do a CCS conversion kit for around 3450 euro).

Brilliant work Dala, keep up the research, very very interesting. Still love the briefcase charger, really do hope you get it working!

Thank you for reporting on and researching of this topic, Dala. Everything I've observed so far indicates that any successful CCS-to-CHAdeMO adapter is probably going to be rather large. I'm concerned that attempting to fit all
the necessary electronics into the confines of a handle-style block of plastic, like shown in the video, is not a good approach. It's going to weigh down on the car's receptacle and induce physical stress over time.

I'd much rather see a design in the form of a briefcase or box that can rest on the ground and have a separate cable (~2m long) attached to it that's terminated on an ordinary CHAdeMO plug. In North America, it should have inlets for both CCS-1 and Tesla NACS. Europeans would probably be fine with just a CCS-2 inlet. I'd rather have an adapter that takes up some physical space, has some real world electronic flexibility and durability and actually works . . . unlike the "convenient" one built into a handle that doesn't!

Both the car and charger have contactors, so the one in the adaptor is probably functional rather than for safety.

LOL - so much praise! Thanks for sharing:)

Hi Dala have you got the link for one off these please

In Amerika we don't need Chademo-> CCS1 adapter anymore, because NACS takes over everything. Is there a chance to get a Chademo-> NACS adapter instead?

When you have injection moulded parts and 3D printed parts in a production product you just know its work in progress and not the finished item.

Wow... I would want it tested at a Electric safety test organisation.
Swedish elsäkerhetsverket. They took down the Easee charger.
And if this isn't protected as you say with two contractors, is it even legal to distribute and sell it?

Please check if that CE stands for China Export or Conformité Européenne. There is a minor differens in the font of the letters

looking inside, it has all the necessary components!
maybe there should be two contactors, but in fact there are already too many contactors in the circuit, the car has two+1s in the battery and one in the PCU, the internal charger has 2+1s with precharge
This self contactor is therefore only for safty to interrupt its operation in case of adaptery failure.
On the adapter, it is necessary to turn on the 12V relay circuits on the ato side and communicate all toghter and then send the combined can+ information to the ccs CP line.

Thankyou for your valuable insight & knowledge - as always 😁

I really want to figure out a NACS/CCS to CHAdeMO adapter for my Leaf.

Surely the contactor will only operate when the charger energises the cable/CCS plug? If so, then the one-pole contactor is not relevant in terms of 'isolation'...?

How about to replace on Leaf type 1 conector with ccs2 (including electronics) conector so you wil have two dc fast charging standards?

Why would there be a requirement of a contactor at all? I guess both the charger and the car are having them. I think they added it to be able to sense the voltage of the car to tell to the CCS part what to supply. Then it need to disconnect the two until measurement is done.

I will definitely buy one when its working good. I can imagine there is quite a big market for this. It would make long trips much more comfortable!

Why to make an adapter? Is it so difficult to change the ChADeMo to a CCS. How much work does it require to the car itself? Obviously there are several electrical parts that need modifying, and software! But is it impossible?

and why do people stick with adapters? why not convert the vehicle?
