Delve into the captivating history of New York's garment district and its entanglement with organized crime. Emerging in the early 1800s in midtown Manhattan, the garment district flourished over the decades, becoming a hub for fashion and manufacturing. However, behind the scenes, a darker narrative unfolded as unions, fueled by Jewish mobsters, began to exert their influence around 1910. Throughout World War II, this control persisted, with Jewish mobsters dominating the landscape. Yet, a seismic shift occurred in the post-war era, as Italian mobsters, notably Tommy Lucchese, asserted their presence within the unions, solidifying their grip on the garment industry by the 1960s. The mob wielded power not only over labor but also over the very operation of designers and manufacturers, dictating who could operate and controlling distribution channels through their sway over trucking routes. One such figure, Tommy Gambino, capitalized on this system, amassing wealth through his ventures in the garment district. However, as the garment industry faced challenges, particularly with the rise of clothing imports post-1950s, the mob's dominance began to wane. By the 1990s, the once ironclad control over the garment district had considerably diminished, marking the end of an era defined by organized crime.

Tommy Gambino. Great example of an organized crime racketeer 👍☘️👍. He’d almost be mistaken for a “ white collar “ criminal if his rackets weren’t based on violence or the threat of violence 🤷‍♂️. Without guys like Gotti, guys like Gambino wouldn’t exist 😎

The Feds took all of that away from them, then turned around and gave it to Isrealis, I seen this with my eyes.

Tommy should’ve been a boss since he embodied his father’s legacy.
