The Secret To INSANE Sound Design 🤯

Показать описание
This sound design trick is the secret to creating the craziest sounds imaginable. Record a synth or effect chain in real time, and go nuts on the controls. Then take the audio file and chop out the best sections. This technique is used a lot for glitch and bass music, but you can adapt the technique to any electronic genre.

The line between where it's tastefully done and where it's glitchy nonsense is a very fine one.

I did something similar to this for a Doom inspired metal track for a client. Stacked loads of distortion effects and fed a simple sub bass line into it, changing the parameters (basically a digital only version of what Mick Gordon did for the Doom soundtrack). One came it so weird it became the melody line and it's something I'd never have come up with on my own.

I need that bit at the end as a full song

I caught this a while ago in a tutorial by Mr Bill - I believe back then he called them ‘idea jams’… I’ve been doing it ever since, absolutely fantastic technique 🔥

Au5 calls these sound design jams, the monolith is a concept for slapping together pre-made sounds and putting that into a simpler to make arranging drops easier :)

I like to think of it as modern hocketing

To add to this, doing the same thing with Arcade or a bunch of in-key one shots/loops - bunch everything into 32 bars or so and keep overdubbing/moving clips then resample the whole stack and save it under that key. Do this a bunch of times and you can recycle your entire sample library

i use Ocenaudio to record my FLstudio output behind the daw all the time for making sequences live and not bouncing but rather slicing live recordings up.

Yes…but no: what you describe here is a mudpie, not a monolith.
There is a difference between the mudpie and the monolith. Pieces of a mudpie can be used to create a monolith. The monolith is a further processed (further than the mudpie) “conglomerate” (using AU5’s term) of sounds.

I should try that but i suck at manually automating FX

This is what I do but I end up doing shit stuff anyway, like my choices are always terrible even if I think the sound I picked is really good, somehow doesn’t sound good in context
