Why why why is every Greek story Zeus and Poseidon not being able to keep things in pants

To be fair to Athena the backstory this video uses for Medusa is Ovid's telling rather than the traditional telling. Originally Medusa was born as one of 3 gorgon sisters to her parents Echidna and Typhon. Ovid was a Roman poet with a strong distaste for authority and habitually villainizes the gods in his retellings

Fun fact, there's another version of the story where Medusa was always a gorgon and had 2 gorgon sisters that were immortal.

This version is from metamorphoses, a story made by Ovid, which didn’t really like the gods. The Pegasus coming from her severed neck is still true in older versions, but she was just a monster with a few gorgon sisters.

Sooo medusa was... "graped" and then subsequently punished for it?? Wasn't athena the goddess or beauty AND "wisdom"?? Idk man that seems like a inconsistency and lapse of judgment on athenas part. Then again... Poseidon was way stronger than her so it's not like athena could punish him directly herself. Maybe the curse was actually a blessing tho. She gave medusa the power to kill anyone that looked into her eyes. One could speculate that she gave her the chance to seek out Poseidon and enact her revenge for herself. Yeah... maybe athena was indeed the goddess of wisdom after all lol :)

Yeah I do understand it that this is the point of view from a man. Athena did not curse Medusa she made Medusa into a god killer. Athena gave Medusa one of the best gifts that a God could ever give a woman the ability never to be violated ever again

There's also an earlier version by Hesiod where he mentions that Medusa layed with Poseidon in his poem "The Theogny" where he was talking about her and her two sisters saying: "Poseidon, he of the dark hair, lay with one of these, in a soft meadow and among spring flowers". possibly meaning that she didn't broke her vow against her will, but broke it on purpose because Aphrodite was let loose again (he didn't mention Aphrodite tho). he also mentions that she birthed him two sons: Pegasus, we all know and love, and great Chrysaor saying: "But when Perseus had cut off the head of Medousa there sprang from her blood great Khrysaor (Chrysaor) and the horse Pegasos (Pegasus) so named from the springs (pegai) of Okeanos, where she was born."

Note: Just to be safe, I'm not writing this comment to hate on anyone nor to brag about how much of a mythology Nerd I am, I'm writing this for three reasons:

1- To prevent misinformation and/or lack of research and ignoring possible important details/information.

2- To let people know that there is no such thing as a "correct" version or "real" version, there are only earlier and later versions.

3- I simply want people to learn from their mistakes and improve their research.

Pegasus has a brother named Chrysaor, a winged boar

Did athena curses medusa, or did she gave medusa a way to protect herself?

One of the reasons it was a Pegasus is because Poseidon is the horse god and the sea god

As change of perspective: Medusa was not *cursed* by Athena. In some tellings of the story Athena turned Medusa into a gorgon so she could protect herself from anyone who tried to do the same that Poseidon did.

Medusa is actually a symbol for SA and her myth has been changed around quite a bit. Sometimes she's a vengeful monster, sometimes she's an icon of feminine anger, sometimes she's a victim. It depends on who tells the story.

It's like the Pegasus was her inner kindness, love, and being innocent.

There’s actually a version where Athena gave Medusa the petrifying sight as a gift so that Woman were safe but no Man could ever harm her again
